"We are monitoring some incidents with the commissioners," said Maj. Gary Blankenship of the Chatham County Sheriff's Office. "So far, none that we have seen constitutes a threat, so we are just staying apprised of the situation."

So WRAL writes that they are threatened and then proves they were not.

uhm, they were threatened.  I assume Blankenship means he doesn't think anything will come of it.

Either way, it's a shame people are acting that way, no matter how they feel about the resolution.  These are our neighbors, people!

These folks are our elected officials and if you don't like what they are doing then get out and get someone to run against these folks and then we will see how others do in the office. This is exactly what I feared would happen when outside intervention came in to play...I am not saying that ALIPAC or NCListen caused this but there is the fringe element which comes through when you have this type of help sometimes. I also read it that the so called threats were not really threats...if they were they could go forward and local law could have done something about it.

I wonder if those callers know the sheriff and police chief have caller ID.

nothing said was an actionable threat, but I bet they get a visit.

Ron Woodard would have nothing to do with any behavior like this.  Now the Commissioners are trying to make themselves look like the poor victims.  Plus it's intersting the WRAL shows up and does a video segment on these threats, doesn't seem like something the Sheriff would want to advertise.  But all I'm saying is the Commissioners brought this on for passing that stupid resolutoin that they thought was a moot point.  That was just dumb politics and irresponsible thinking.  It was this resolutoin that brought NC LISTEN and William Gheen to Chatham County.  But I also do not believe that either of these organizations had anything to do with these threats.  It's to bad any of this ever happened, but I still blame the Commissioners and their wonderful HR dt for a lot of this miss.  That HR position that Lucier brought in was a mistake.

But lets give the HR dt another award for starting all this bs, oh and like at the BOC meeting, lets give them another round of applause for their great and tiredness work on getting this resolutoin passed.  Roll Eyes

Try pausing the video to read what you can of that email they showed that ended with "Sleep soundly while you can"

That could be taken as a threat but from what is visible of the email it doesn't seem to me that what's the writer meant.  It seem more likely they were referring to increased crime caused by illegal alien criminals attracted to the county by the resolution.

That was my impression of what I could read anyway.

If that's the case it's an unjustified over-reaction but not a threat.

I agree, I think those threats are just sensationalism.

"We'll just come in and take you all out" gets a little closer to a threat, IMO.  Certianly closer than anything ever posted on this BB.  Keep that in mind the next time anybody writes about how they've been "threatened" on the BB.

Meanwhile, anybody who spoke out in favor of 287(g) found themselves the victim of the so called "retaliation" we're all supposed to be so afraid of?

This whole focus on 287 g is kind funny.  No one, even I am not pressing for a 287 g program, my whole thing is that the resolutoin prevents our law enforcement to participate in any ICE program.  I for one am advocating the Secure Communities program that focus directly on the criminal aspect that our already in jail.  Plus Sherri Webster has not deported anyone from his jail, nor has their ever been any doors kicked in or raids performed by his dept ever on illgal immigrant's.  But I also note he has not deported anyone to ICE either that was in his jail system and have mostly like been more of the problem of capture and release.  Now those our facts.
