This just goes to show you have to be careful about who/what you invite into your "house". Never have cared for traveling "salesmen", medicine wagons  Agreed there Natrabit...we don't need no outsiders comin' in here to tell us what to do! This is our county and we can discuss this with our neighbors without the riff raff...go back to your own home and leave ours alone. |

Sounds like all in all CCV accomplished what the night was supposed to do. The goal was to get discussion going. Approx. 100 chatham citizens showed up listened, asked questions and made comments. CCV did not allow the commissioners to set the agenda. I'm sure Lucier and others expected them to cancel the forum. They did not. Keep up the good work and don't let them them bully you.

Perhaps there should try to be a forum in or near Siler City now and give those folks who are so many times forgotten an opportunity to express their feelings about thi resolution and the costs to the Citizens of this county....we need to hear from all the folks of the county and get their thoughts about the BOC and the representation it is or is not giving the entire county.

You know, I thought that was an interesting choice, strategically speaking. Siler City obviously has the bigger problem, yet CCV chose to hold this event in what, to put it mildly, is Coalitionista territory. And yet, apparently, they had a great turn out.
Imagine what the turnout would have been in a place like Siler City. You have to hand it to them that they chose a moderator with sympathy toward the illegal population and held their event in the Chapel Hill suburbs. I am not sure that it was a wise strategy, but it was obviously more than fair to the proponents of illegal immigration. Too bad they chose not to show up. It could have been a very constructive conversation.

There was no real choice on where to hold the meeting. We don't have many meeting spots in PBO. With short notice none were available. To suggest that the meeting was held in Chapel Hill suburbs is an unfair characterization.
Despite what is being purported here, this was not where I would have liked to hold the meeting.
Rick is a friend of mine and was only selected because CCV's favorite moderator and friend, Professor East, is moving this week to VA.
CCV has traditionally rotated our community meetings between PBO and Siler.

I agree, that was a bad way for me to say that and inacurate. I did not mean to imply that Pittsboro is a Chapel Hill suburb, but it clearly read that way, and I apologize for it. It was more convenient to the hard-left supporters from Chapel Hill than it was for those from the Siler City area, who appear, at least on the surface, to be more heavily impacted by the illegal alien problem. It would appear more than fair to the hard-left from every way you could look at it. |

Chatham County citizens. Great job Heather and CCV!
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for our BOC. I'll be thinking
long and hard before I vote for them again.

That sounds like a great group...I would like to clarify that I am not in any way saying that the meeting Thursday should have been held any where else...I am saying that another meeting to inform the citizens of the County would possibly be of help...Heather and Randy and the group of folks have worked deligently to get awareness of the One sided resolution out to the county...it has always been my goal to have ALL OF CHATHAM COUNTY represented in these kinds of issues...I would like to see a unified county and when I first came on this board I started a thread about ways to accomplish this and several folks killed the thread by saying it was not possible and it had always been that way...I find this way if thinking old and worn out...it is time for us as citizens in this county to go to our commissioners and remind them of the folks who live here, not just outside interest or special interest groups. I am positive we can ALL agree we love this area and want what is best for everyone. |
