Here is something that we can all do to help a business in Chatham County. > There is an article on the cover of the Chatham News this week, > Survival Uncertain....Farmer's Alliance Store has been in business in > Siler City for 121 years. We don't want to lose them. > > To the members of the Siler City Merchants Association please stop by the store and let them know > that we care. To everyone else if you haven't been here you need to > visit, they have ALOT of stuff! Gardening time is coming up they have > all the seeds you need, they also will have starter plants, they have > clothes, shoes, hats, gloves, candy, homemade jams and jellies. > > Over the next 10 days the SCMA is going to support this store by > visiting and sending a different picture everyday on look at what we > found at Farmers Alliance. Please join in the fun and go by and see > what you can find, say hi to Nancy. Let your friends know, visit > their website at www.thefarmersalliance.com and send the website out. > > If we choose to pull together we can survive and what a story that > will be. >

Snowball thanks for posting, I have yet to read this weeks Chatham News, but we should all pay a visit to the Farmers alliance store. If nothing else go in and buy some hoop cheese, it's great cheese and you won't find any like it in the grocery store.

The Farmers' Alliance is an absolute icon. That little store represents all that is still good and right in Siler City. While everything else has dried up and evaporated, the Farmers' Alliance has stood stong. A momument to the town history, a salute to our veterans, and a remembrance of old ways, the Farmers' Alliance is a true gem. The quality of items they carry is top of the line. (Remember, cheaper is just that) I wish everyone would appreciate this store, and help them continue for anonther hundred years. Red

We added a link to their new web site off of our store web site, go to www.SharpeStoreMusic.org then to the link page and click on local interests. We will do everything we can in our power to help keep them going I personally try to stop by and see Ms. Nancy every chance I get.

It's a great store, there just aren't many like it anymore. I hope it will continue to serve the area for a long time.

I love this store and am going this week to buy garden supplies. I hope it starts to make a profit this year.

MUST keep this TREASURE up and running! Gone in there with my Dad since I was a small child (and I am getting on up there in dirt age years!)! Nancy is a JEWEL..the ENTIRE place is. Ever had those dried apples, jam's/jellies from there? You can find seeds there you won't find easily elsewhere. CHEESE off the hoop? MERCY it is good. You won't meet nicer people than they are in there. Let's KEEP it going!

http://www.thefarmersalliance.com/The Farmers’ Alliance Store at 134 S. Chatham Avenue in Siler City is the town’s oldest business, but longevity isn’t a guarantee of success in the midst of the nation’s ongoing economic woes. In fact, the store needs a lot of boosts from a lot of people. The store is 121 years old. It made a profit every year from its founding in 1888 until 1998. Now, it is struggling to stay open. "The last 10 years have seen the store have no profit, despite cutting every possible penny it can," store manager Nancy Tysor said. One thing the store has going against it is many people apparently do not know it exists. Chatham County Camera Club founder Duane Hall is trying to change that. To help bring some attention to the downtown Siler City store, Hall created a brand new website them at www.thefarmersalliance.com. The new website provides information about the store. "Sitting at the Farmers’ Alliance store is like sitting in a decades-old general store, hashing out the news or gossip of the day around a pot-bellied stove," Hall said. The website is primarily de-signed for the purpose of be-coming better known by more people on-line. http://www.thechathamnews.com/

This sounds like a wonderful store - wish I'd known about it sooner. I'll definitely be visiting in the next week or so.

We finally made it to the Farmer's Alliance store today. Looks like we just barely beat the bad weather that is about to move through. I can hear the thunder to the SSW. Scary. The Farmer's Alliance is a blast from the past. The woman's clothes are a few decades out of style but the boots and men's work clothes selection downstairs is pretty good. Quite a bit of it is made in the USA. Just watch your head for the low ceiling and beams. I bought a pair of rubber boots that I think might last. The last cheap pair from China lasted a week or two before getting a hole. The seed collection is very good as well. They have red, white, and Yukon gold potatoes as well onion and shallots. I'm afraid we bought more stuff to plant than we have room to plant. This store is a treasure. We will go back. Well worth the trip. Even the kids who moaned and groaned about the place ended up admitting that they liked the place. Customer service was excellent. Please go visit the Farmer's Alliance. Its a piece of history and better than a museum! Later, Dan
