I went to this last year and learned a lot.

Chatham County residents are invited to attend the 2009 State of the County Address on Monday, March 16, in the Superior Courtroom in Pittsboro. George Lucier, chair of the Board of Commissioners, will present the address near the beginning of the regular board meeting, which begins at 6 pm. Light refreshments will be available at 5:30 pm.

“We initiated the State of the County Address last year to provide a fairly detailed report to residents on major initiatives and accomplishments of their county government, including highlights from key departments and the school system,” said Lucier. The address will include an update on the county’s financial situation, including how it has been impacted by the recession and how the county’s tax rate will be reduced to offset some of the impact of revaluation on tax bills.

“We also will report on the major findings of a countywide survey and how respondents’ priorities relate to initiatives or programs completed or underway. We were very pleased that nearly 600 people took the time to share their views through the survey,” Lucier added.

The Superior Courtroom is located inside the traffic circle in Pittsboro, on the second floor.

I'd come, but I'm not sure what to do at the traffic circle.

Go right, then left, then right. Grin

I drive through it every day, and I am surprised there are not more accidents.
