Chatham Transit Network held a public hearing today concerning the transportation needs of the county. While the meeting was well attended, we are still seeking input from the citizens of Chatham County about our transportation needs. Please feel free to send an e mail to our Execute Director, Dale Olbrich, at d.olbrich@chathamtransit.org. We will be accepting input until March 23, 2009. Thank you, Allison Springer Administrative Assistant Chatham Transit Network

Good one there, Seavey....I am not sure how I feel about the need for public transit....It would be interesting to see some others input on this...I can see us needing this type of transportation within just a few years at the rate we are being invaded by new folks here in this area...but if this is not going to be of use for the entire county then how will it benefit all the citizens of Chatham.

in every part of the 3rd world America, you can stand on a street corner and catch a cheap van to where ever you need to go. people count on it, and don't have cars. it is amazing to live there, and such a let down to come home to poor USA, no public transit.
most of the world, all of the non-USA world, the people have public transportation, learn to use it at an early age, and it is a normal government service. very handy, and the locals are patient and helpful to the helpless USA citizens who find themselves stranded locally. we should try it, we might like it.

I am sure that if we had the public transit as in 3rd world,,,it would be used especially after folks will no longer be able to afford to run their cars...which at the rate the economy is going in the crapper it will be sooner than later...but if it is only for Pittsboro to Chapel Hill and back then I guess we have to start somewhere, guess this is as good as any where to start.

I have a few neighbors with car trouble (no cars) who could benefit, as well as a few teenagers, and pre-teens. walking to Cole Park is not a problem.

Snarky clever-wanna-be wit aside, Chatham Transit provides rides for people who need to get to work, to CCCC for classes to improve their job prospects, to the doctor, for older folks, for disabled folks. It has been running transportation routes in Chatham for more than 10 years. All of you who have opinions might want to learn the facts about transportation for people in your community before you get all it-isn't-about-my-need self-centered about it. If you happen to care about the well being of people who cannot drive themselves or do not have alternate transportation, then I suggest you get involved in something real, Chatham Transit. If you don't want to take the trouble to learn about it or get involved, save your connect time for something else. I appreciate that Allison made an honest attempt to start a discussion about it.

Never considered myself a wanna-be but I have seen several posts about bus routes, mass transit and other issues the last few weeks and I was asking what this is all about? Is this about the Vans that take people around to doctors appointments, to the UNC hospitals and to the stores....if it is there are many citizens that rely on these modes of transport for survival and have no other means of transportation. These vans make the difference between independent living and being at the mercy of others. They give individuals self respect and independence...it would be a grave error to not continue this service.

I can appreciate Allison's thread but a little clarity would have been nice....seems that a lack of sense of humor is noted here especially in light of all the threads about mass transit on the board....no one here is belittling the efforts of Chatham Transit...sometimes it is difficult to keep up with all the different threads....if anyone was offended then check your sleeves because it appears that your feelings may be on them....just alittle wanna-be humor.

That's not what this post is about. Why don't you go to the Chatham Transit website and learn what they do instead?
