The Chatham County Commissioners authorized $154,000 of our tax dollars for this study to be conducted by UNC Chapel Hill.  Does anyone have any information on the results or what has become of this.  Here's all I can find on the analysis.  My questoin is does anyone have any information of what the County is doing with the results or the plan they are following regarding the results.  Any asst or information would be appreciated  Smiley

I'm simply doing some honest research of this of facts only, not opinions.  I just want to check as a citizen of what this $154,000 of our tax money actually did or will do for our community.  Maybe it was good for the community, I just want to know the facts if anyone has any.  I will be going to the County Managers office next week to find out as much as I can.  SWOT stands for Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities and Threats   Smiley

The number to call at our local govt is 542 8200 for all those concerned

The community is actively involved in strategies to address the strategic plan. I'm involved with one of the groups, and you should be too! Here's a link to a summary of the three workgroups and their focuses. Contact the EDC to express your interest.

What I wanjt to know if this tax money spent realldid anyhting, or was this stuff already being done.  I'm just following the money so to say.

Where did cat5 go Huh If the SWOT analysis is good for the community, please share it with us and what your group is doing, tell the public.  I got a open mind, if it's good, please share how we can build our counties economy up.  If no body talks about it, how will folks know?  I'll be the first to volunteer my help if it's going to help our county  Smiley

Hi, Randy- I'm here- just had some other things to do this afternoon Smiley

I'm involved as a citizen- I'm not on the staff of EDC, nor on the board. The staff would be a better and more comprehensive resource for you, and they will be glad to give you a list of strategies the groups are working on. One group is concentrating on attracting new industry, one is working on retaining existing industries, and one is working on encouraging entrepreneurship. Strategies are being developed to attract industries identified as a good fit for our county. The EDC has an inventory of vacant buildings as well as properties for sale. Marketing is being done to promote the business campus (industrial park) at Siler City. There are groups working to position for stimulus money to come to this county for economic development. (Regardless of how you feel about the stimulus package, hopefully all agree that we need to get some of the funds to stimulate the economy in our own county) And the county is getting some interest from businesses. There are several companies seriously looking at this county to locate. The county and the municipalities appear to be working together nicely.

The biggest recent "success" was the expansion at Uniboard in Moncure. Hopefully there will be more soon to come.

There are some good things happening. Those with an interest need to step up to the plate and get involved. The county needs the perspectives and ideas of as many who can.

As a citizen, I appreciate your interest, Randy, and hope you will get involved.

Rock on cat5, but my questoin remains and do not expect you to know this since your just a outstanding citizen trying to help.  But was the $154,000 paid for that 92 page power point that I posted or was part of the tax funds spent elsewhere besides the power point.  I would like a "complete breakdown" of where this $154,000 was spent and who received the funds from the $154,00 analysis, I'm just following the money and feel I as a Chatham County citizen has a right and responsibility to know. Here's the final results of the EDC and SWOT analysis program.

http://www.chathamedc.org/files/u9/tham_County_Report-Final_Version-full_report_0.pdf

Basically has the EDC done anything as yet to bring in jobs or business into the County, NO.  But the overall plan is "long term strategy", that will just have to allow time to see any real results.  But it is still a ongoing plan.  It will take some time to go through all this and I do not have the abilty to do this, will have to get assistance to research this.  I spoke with Charlie Horne Town Mgr and Jennifer Nelson from the EDC who was nice enough to show us there public site as above.  Basically this all is concentrated on the EDC.
