This whole issue is about reasonable govt using our tax dollers responsibly.  I'm getting so tired of having to vote for local politicians with me having to consider "who will do the least amount of damage while in office"  nough said

I was on my way to work this morning traveling north on 15-501 and came up beside the long anticipated and greatly debated Pittsboro bus.  I just had to slow down and see the massive amount of people riding it - and lo and behold - it was packed to capacity with 2 lonely riders and a driver!  I am so thankful to the Commissioners and Mayor Voller that our tax dollars are going to such great use to assist these 2 riders and giving the bus driver a job.  This is sure to improve the local economy!

Why not just give it some time! Not many people read the BBS and the news barely talked about it. No bus service started at 100%.

This new bus has been published on all the news stations and news papers and everyone in Chatham county is well aware of this service that has been started.  Even if 50 people rode this bus, it would still not mount up to any significant change on traffic it pollution and will not be cost effective for the tax payers that will be flipping the bill.

This week is just practice.  The real bus service doesn't start til next week after the official ribbon cutting and "Officials Ride" scheduled for Monday morning Aug 31st.

DJ Kelly,
Since you have a facility with numbers, how much on your 2010 taxbill did the county's contribution cost you? (The county committed $43,000 for the pilot program.) And what is the percentage of the budget?

Is your defense that it is only a little more tax money on top of all of the other tax money?  That may be okay for people that can afford to give a little more, but there are many people in the current economy that could use a little more in their own pockets.

And your point is what?

Randolph is now like Sally Struthers asking you to donate money to support the poor old people like Jeffrey Starkweather's wife.

The bus is costing taxpayers $360,000 and your friend Dee Reid just got got the equivalent of a hefty $5,000 raise.

It is unfortunate that you only rely smears, name calling and insults. If the average investment for County Tax payers is less than $2 on their FY 2010 tax bill than it would appear that a valuable piece of transit infrastructure was purchased for less than a "happy meal". Now that's "magic" anyone can admire.

I leave campus at 6:30 in the evening, the bus arrives at the courthouse at 6:52 (by the schedule). When I meet the bus going back to Chapel Hill it has the "Out of Service" displayed. I assume no one is allowed to ride the last return to Chapel Hill? That is a total waste.

It was not purchased for the less than a happy meal, it was purchased for 360,000 dollars or about 180,000 happy meals.

My gasoline bill for the year would be quite low if spread over all citizens of the county as well, about $0.15/year.

So why not have everyone else pay for my gasoline?  I'll give anyone who wants a ride if they agree to go at my regularly scheduled time, I don't have to go out of my way to pick them up, and they'll read quietly and let me drive in peace...

Heck, while we're at it, I have a lot of other bills that, spread out over everyone in the county, would hardly cost everyone anything...

The failed logic of a politician.

Anyway, since I'll never use the bus, I'd rather have the happy meal for my granddaughter.

Seriously Mr. Mayor, it's these comments form any politician that drive me nuts.  "Its only two dollars." "It's just a drop in the bucket".   Well it's my drop and I want to keep it in my bucket.    But that's why we vote.  Good luck.

So Randolph,

What you are basically saying is that you want to take food away from children so that your friend Dee Reid Starkweather can ride the magic bus for free.

Because that's what it boils down too.

That $2 over the course of one year is gonna break a lot of families, I'm sure.  Oh, the humanity!

headbang It is not just this 2 dollars.  It is every 2 dollars I have to give up every year. 2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2
