If the average investment for County Tax payers is less than $2 on their FY 2010 tax bill than it would appear that a valuable piece of transit infrastructure was purchased for less than a "happy meal".

So Randolph,

What you are basically saying is that you want to take food away from children so that your friend Dee Reid Starkweather can ride the magic bus for free.

Because that's what it boils down too.

That $2 over the course of one year is gonna break a lot of families, I'm sure.  Oh, the humanity!

headbang It is not just this 2 dollars.  It is every 2 dollars I have to give up every year. 2+(etc.)

It's a penny every two days.

I really can't believe the "it's only $2 per year" argument...

As others have said, $2 for this, $2 for that, pretty soon we're talking about real money.

I know my property tax bill was a lot higher than $2 last year

I'll tell you what, Linda.  Since it's no big deal to you, would you be willing to pay me back my $2, and wolfie's, and Muddies', and RJ's, and skydiver's, and ...?

After all, it would only be pennies a day to you...   Grin

I want my $2.00 back so I can buy my kid a Happy Meal. At least someone in my family will use it.

I'll tell you what - I'll pay it if you'll shut up about the bus.  Deal?

Remember, the bus is a recurring expense.  Once word gets out to everyone who doesn't support the bus, you might have quite the expense on your hands.  Even better, why not pressure the CC's to actually charge riders what the bus costs...then no one but the users will have to pay.

For those that say everyone knows about the bus... wrong.
I live in the rura,l north part of Pboro and many people who are on my road did not know and said if the bus stopped up the road they would be glad to ride it. These are the true people of Chatham... the older black folks and farmers. The cattle guy down the road did not know and he stated he would ride it to save his old truck. Everyone just needs to stop nitpicking politics and encourage people to take advantage of real infrastructure growth for once.

Interesting.  So, perhaps what is needed for success and the reaching of more who desire the service is word to reach the ears of those who aren't on the BBS, chatlist, or who don't read the local paper.....I haven't seen flyers around - has anyone else?

Thanks, I would also happily accept the reimbursement. Glad it means nothing to you.  But let me remind you that the two dollars here and there add up. It keeps adding up, because the faulty logic that leads to this project leads to another and another, as it did to many before this one. That is how we end up with deficits, with over taxed, overburdened families, businesses going under, and lost jobs.  Flaunt your wealth as you will, those of us struggling to keep our businesses afloat, our families fed, our cars running, and our lights on, will gladly take the reimbursement you offer.  Even when I choose to give $2 to a cause that does not feed my family, I still wish to choose that cause for myself, rather than have it forced from me by a government that cares not one whit for my family, friends, or neighbors.

Dang, Christian Feller, that's about the saddest thing I've ever heard you say. I hear Finland has a very caring government. Perhaps they could spare you a whit or two if you moved there.

So what you are saying is that along with not doing any type of study to determine if a bus is a good idea, or trying to match vehicle size to the rider pool, now that they have a bus, they are not telling anyone to come ride it.  I can not imagine why people are upset around here.
