The ICE resolution implies integrity.  They get my vote on those grounds alone.  We all may easily recall what the Bunkey era was like.  The one major improvement on the BOC would be hispanic representation.  Hopefully someone of that persuasion from Siler City will run next time.

Why are you so racist beel?  Don't the Asians that live in our community deserve a commissioner too?

Wolf,
The numbers that Mr. Galin has provided in the past change based on the number of riders. Furthermore it was not clear whether his metrics took into account external cost such as air quality and heath insurance not to mention the calm of riding to work and the increased productivity.  Grin  Finally, properties served by transit should tend to increase in value and/or hold their value relative to the market. Transit is an investment just like water, sewer, and broadband availability.

Chapel Hill Transit will be periodically providing Chatham County and Pittsboro ridership data, when we receive this information it will be public. Anecdotal accounts indicate that we have ridership in both directions and that on some trips we are getting almost double projections.

Support for transit is bipartisan. The Chair of the EDC, Joe Glasson, is a lifelong Republican and he and the Chatham County EDC Board endorsed the Pittsboro Express through a letter of support last March. As I have written before Chapel Hill Mayoral Candidate and Orange Orange County GOP chair Augustus Cho strongly supports this service as do many Republicans in the 4th district.  Mr. Cho and the former GOP chair of Durham County, Melodie Parrish, attended the ribbon cutting for the bus service on 8/31/09 and both made strong statements in support of the service.

There is an abundance of research and information available on transit. The Special Transit Advisory Commission (STAC), which issued its report in May of 2008, recommended what we now call the "Pittsboro Express Service".

The "regional transit vision plan" was made to various stakeholders with "recommendations for North Carolina's Research Triangle Region".  The STAC report was received and supported by the:

1. Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO)
2. Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC)
3. Triangle J Council of Governments (TJCOG)
4. Triangle Transit
5. NC DOT
6. Regional Transportation Alliance
7. The Institute for Transportation Research (ITRE)

If you do not support transit planning and implementation than none of the data nor research will sway your opinions.

If you do support diverse transit options then you will understand why it is imperative that we get on board and support a great long term asset for our county and region: enhanced daily bus service in partnership with Chatham Transit.

The folllowing is what Ms. Melodie Parrish had to say in an email to me regarding the transit service:

To Whom It May Concern:

The Transportation Advisory Board members were invited to participate in the "officials" ride for the inauguration of the "Pittsboro Express" on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 7:00 a.m..  There were officials from Pittsboro and Chatham County on the bus as well.  All went well and there were a bus full of participants.

My involvement in promoting a regional connectivity concept is with the Chapel Hill Transportation Advisory Board and that entity only.

With that stated, others may reference, or publish comments about my position on the regional connectivity concept, (and indicate my party affiliation--to denote "bipartisan support") at will.  I have no control over that.

Regards,
Melodie

If the ICE resolution is an example of their integrity we still have plenty of room for improvement.

Beel, My question regarding your post about having hispanic representation on the BOC being a major improvement was a serious question. Is there an answer?
