The other day someone questioned me on my patriotism and said my free flag pin was too small. I was flummoxed. Now I am afraid to leave the house unless I wear extra large flag pins. I never knew I would suffer from flag pin envy.

My Amish friends rode their ox cart to the "Old Fashioned" day a few weeks back in Silk Hope. They wrote me a letter on hemp paper, which was sealed in wax and just delivered by the pony express. The letter said that they "were confused with the new fangled industrial revolution" and said it was not "old fashioned" enough.

I do not know and my husband is not sure as we don't know them by name. He says a bunch from there come to eat every Thursday. The Lay Minister and all others seemed shocked and did not say anything back but luckily the woman told him it is donated food and we have to work with what we get.

Maybe they could bring in some used, but organic, whole grain, locally pressed, vegan, vitamin enriched, halal, fry oil?

Shame on those who treated that volunteer with disrespect.

That's uncalled for.  Passion is admirable, but it's no excuse for lack of tact.

Or self-righteousness.

Maybe they could bring in some used, but organic, whole grain, locally pressed, vegan, vitamin enriched, halal, fry oil?

There you go - now that would be a grand gesture (other than the used part).  Donate, support, rather than deride.

Mary,
What was the purpose of this post in the first place? If there was some issue with a young person who questioned something at church wouldn't the best place to handle that be at church? Also, if the event is attracting an overflow of people from all backgrounds is that not a good thing? (Getting the younger generation to engage is socially positive.)  It seems unclear why it's postive to create something negative online from a social interaction at a food bank/lunch event.

I'm curious about what the evils of peanut oil are, anyway? I thought it was a viable raw material for making biodiesel and better for you than other oils. And anyway, it's super-yummy, hence Chick-Fil-A's deliciousness.

Kuranes,
Good question. I have no idea, but I have been on the receiving end of various individuals and groups proselytizing many times in my life.  Grin

Maybe the post was to make folks aware of the arrogance and intolerance of some folks who do not agree....how can there be positive from a person who would disrespect another...who just happened to be fixing that person lunch...now where I come from if you go to lunch and eat with someone...you don't get to complain about what is served...you eat it and say "thank you" that is what respect is all about...think about what your parents and grandparents taught you about showing respect to others and especially when that person is feeding you.

Looks like Lesley Landis is BACK as the infamous Butterbean. Guess her hubby Randolph is out this evening out doing whatever and left her in charge of monitoring the bulletin board.

Hey Lesley Butterbean, the "negative" was the misbehavior of a Piedmont Biofuels person. How about you invite them over for a Wonderful Wednesday event and have an etiquette person do a presentation.

The purpose as others had stated was to make the community aware that there are people who disrespected the community lunch volunteer. I am a member of St Barts and my husband volunteers at the lunches there and this tirade from a bio fuels worker made a volunteer and others quite upset. This forum is to bring issues out. That lunch is for the needy although ALL are welcome but if it is prepared by donated food there is no need to lecture a volunteer on how bad something was they were serving. They are in need and never turn donations down. ALL should be respectful of elders especially in a church.

Exactly Mary you are right and to you Butterbean there is nothing GOOD that can come from being antagonistic to someone would volunteer their time to make lunch for you and then you can only complain about the menu when it is freely donated...this person should feel like the jackass he is or has shown himself to be.

I wonder how much good comes from posting second hand gossip, which wasn't even admitted to be secondhand until well into the thread.   And what was the reason again for naming the employer of the gossip target?
