According to the Chatham News, the bus is averaging 23 rides per day. That figure was provided by Brian Litchfield of Chapel Hill Transit (CHT).
23 passengers / 6 bus runs = < 4 passengers per bus

what I do not understand is the absolute lack of advertising. no local news to speak of. how do people even know it exists?
local public transportation is expected in most of the civilized world, but it is a rare, very new, actually a novelty here. has anyone been doing public relations on it?
I've had the same question repeatedly. I wouldn't know that it existed if not for the BBS, and while I obviously don't have my finger on the pulse of all activity, can imagine there are people who have no clue. ?

There was LOTS of coverage in the Chatham media (Chatham Record, Chatham Journal). Lots of coverage in UNC venues (Daily Tarheel articles as well as more targeted departments/divisions). Article in the Indy, the Durham Herald Sun, Carrboro Citizen. Post on MyNC.com and other blogs, including some real estate blogs. Announcements on the Pittsboro, Chatham County and Chapel Hill government websites. Notices in Fearrington and other community newsletters. Chatham EDC, Chapel Hill Transit, Triangle Transit, and other local websites. The only local media I couldn't find was the News and Observer (but the bus doesn't run to Raleigh). What media outlet do you think was missed? If you don't know about the bus, you don't pay attention to the local news, or you don't have any interest in finding alternative transportation.

Speaking not so much to media outlets. Personally, I get much more info from here and the Chatlist than popping through websites and reading papers, etc. Regardless, I know about it and that's great, for me.... But, I think about those who may be "under-represented". Those without access to the internet, don't pick up papers, or do so sporadically. Thinking more about really basic spread - flyers in the post office, grocery stores, feed stores, ensuring word is spread to organizations (ex: belle mentioned the women's shelter awhile back - such places). Mary I believe mentioned a farmer neighbor that was surprised to hear about it. I believe as I chat with people in my neck of the county that there are many who are unaware.

According to the Chatham News, the bus is averaging 23 rides per day. That figure was provided by Brian Litchfield of Chapel Hill Transit (CHT). He also is quoted as saying that he's heard that some riders take the CHT bus in the morning and Chatham Transit Network (CTN) in the afternoon. Bus boardings are also low at the bus stop on the circle probably due to limited parking. Randy Voller is also quoted in the article as saying that it is a mistake to make too much of the numbers this early in the service.
I thought the circle was a bad place for a bus stop. I have seen 1 person waiting for the bus there as I drive by in the mornings. Sorry Randy. The mistake was funding a bus with tax payer money that serves very few people.

15-501 really moves right along, I don't know how people can complain about the traffic. 64 seems to carry more traffic between Siler and Pittsboro compared to 15-501, I know 421 carries more traffic between Siler and Greensboro.
