I applaud Gene's efforts, however, inducing a trend from one observation is problematic. Let's pretend I know nothing about basketball and I happen to watch the 1984 NCAA tourney where Michael Jordan scores just 13 points in his final game. If that is the only game I ever view what would I conclude about Michael Jordan, UNC, Dean Smith, etc, etc. Anecdotally, I have been told by friends that ridership varies daily and as many as 15 have been using the service-which certainly outstrips the humble start the park and ride service from UNC had in North Chatham. Again if you do not see a value in the investment in public transit than no scenario will ever be satisfactory.
Don't worry. Just wait for the attacks and excuses to start rolling in a little bit later on. You are just plain pathetic man. Now you're really stretching it here and spreading it thick. It is interesting to note that you and your friend Randolph felt no need to provide ANY numbers until Gene went out and took a look this morning. As for your number of "as many as 15" - Date and time please. Otherwise it's as worthless as 100% single vote for Randolph over at the Brier Creek event.

We are not spending we are investing. In Pittsboro's case we are using funds we literally have not had in over a decade to pay for our share. (Distributions from the Pittsboro ABC Store.) So this is an offset.
As for the county the amount is less than $2 a year on most tax bills. I fail to see how we cannot afford to invest less than $2 per tax bill on a good idea. (Less than one penny a day.) Are you willing to testify with a straight face to the County Board of Commisioners that the tax payers are unwilling and unable to support an investment of less than one penny a day on their tax bill?
This is a pilot program. Please support the program.
Best Regards, Mayor Randy Voller

If the county comissioners reduce my tax bill to 2 dollars a year, I will stand there naked and tell them they can spend it on whatever they want.

So this is a public bus, so isn't there some sort of freedom of information act that would compel the ridership numbers?
I'd prefer the county spend my $2 the schools. My daughters classroom's globe still has the Soviet Union on it.

nobody slammed Gene all he did was point out a fact, Gene's numbers are a snapshot of ridership on one particular friday morning during a 30 minute period.
what i don't understand is why didn't the poster who has been demanding numbers from everyone else go out and get these for itself. It's just like "the right" to want someone else to do its bidding while taking no responsibility personally for what it wants.
Oh, wrong thing to say. I'll be out there with video and photos every morning. The bus stop in Pittsboro in LOWES is hard to find, but it at the outer right edge of parking lot if your standing at Loews looking out at 15/501. It took me ten minute to find it. It;s just a tiny little sing like it's being hidden or something. That bus has been going up 15/501 empty for to long, or just a couple of riders. I'm suing Mayor Voller for inexcusable carbon credits and the Chatham County BoC (Boneheads of Chatham) who forked over "county money" for something they already knew was not needed. QUIT SPENDING TAX MONEY NEEDLESSLY

The ridership numbers will be available at the 90 and 180 day mark. (This has been communicated before.)
Funds for schools are not connected to transit funds. Pittsboro citizens fund schools only through the payer's portion of the bill which is "Chatham County". One may not like the decision to support the Pittsboro Express, but it is a false narrative to claim a connection with the school budget and this transit program.
Furthermore, I support schools as do many of my friends and none of us have children. We are all supporting and investing in the public good.
Best Regards, Mayor Randy Voller

Mine can go to the new Boys and Girls Club forming over here in Siler... unlike most liberal programs, they are very effective at keeping kids in schools, helping prevent teen pregnancies, and getting the kids in their programs into higher education.
and, best of all, I doubt they're ever counseled anyone (or been the attorney for anyone who would) on how to import teenage prostitutes, how to get a loan for your brothel, and then how to lie on tax returns to have the rest of us pay for it.

This "issue" is a phony attempt to attack Mr. Voller. Populist is exactly right. Gene's "investigative" reporting is only marginally relevant if he spends his days for at least several months compiling ridership totals. And just checking out one parking lot doesn't do the job adequately. He should ride the damn bus from start to finish. Then he needs to get into the transit books, and also understand how they've set up the plan. Populist is exactly right in his analysis above.
This bus route is essentially a pilot project--a step towards a regional transit system, which all of the Triangle Counties will eventually need. Mr. Voller contributed to the benefit of his constituents in Pittsboro by helping to get the project. As there are a number of folks who seem to hate Voller, their goal is to trash the bus as a tool towards trashing Voller, and logic be damned.
To quote David Byrne, same as it ever was.

If Gene did ride the bus from start to finish, it could go from 0 passengers to 1 passenger.
