There are a couple brands of owls around here, so I wouldn't rule out an owl.  But my guess is that it is a banshee...............

Really? Who manufactures them? Mattel, Hasbro, Honda?

Could be a Eastern Screech Owl, or another breed of Owl. They sure can sound scary in the dark sometimes.

Speaking of odd noises...

Did it sound like this?

For even more hilarity, turn it up on your computer speakers and let the family dog listen to it.  Seriously.

Haven't heard of a Manns Chapel monkey sighting in a while. Maybe it's him. I'd vote for the owl though. Or the banshee.

Hey ...... don't knock Snipe hunting, they are real tasty in a stew with taters, carrots and onions.

I think what we were hearing is a Eastern Screech Owl, the sound is close to the first part of the call here,

Although it sounds more like this one, the Boreal Owl (a bit slower than the clip) but it says they aren't around here.

This is an excellent website to torment your dogs with late at night while they are trying to sleep!

Our peacocks are missing as of Monday, November 16.  Sad  We are on Alston Chapel Rd.  There is a Peacock and 2 Peahens - all three are India Blues.  Please call (919.971.0269) or reply to this post if you have any leads.  Thanks!
