Let's finish wish positive statements about the candidates. I will start this thread with some of ours. I have worked with Judi Anderson on a number of issues in Chatham County including the the green home company that may be locating an operation in Siler City.

Chatham County

Chatham County’s progress in the next two decades depends on all of us a
residents doing the right things at the right times to help the County grow
in a constructive, positive way.  Part of that platform includes learning
how to maximize manpower and resources in ways that are collaborative with
our neighboring counties, with our citizenry and with businesses that are
here or want to be here.

This collaborative spirit, to be successful, must put partisanship aside and
focus on the goals at hand.  These include jobs, housing, school
improvements, and infrastructure, to be sure.  These things all give us
direct benefits.  But, there’s a larger goal afforded to us as citizens of
Chatham County.  It includes reaching out to all audiences, all
constituencies, and all stakeholders, regardless of where they live and
vote.  We are, after all, part of a larger neighborhood of kindred spirits
with similar objectives.

If we want to consider who embodies this type of collaborative, collegial
thinking and puts it into practical use, we need look no farther than to the
current Mayor of Pittsboro, Randy Voller.

Mayor Voller exemplifies the “can do” attitude that is essential in this day
and age.  His efforts to uplift Pittsboro have created a watershed of
benefits for the community and for the County as a whole.  Moreover, his
vision has created a new recognition of Chatham County as a sleeping giant
of opportunity for commerce, recreation, residential communities and
innovation that wants to preserve its bucolic, small-town atmosphere.

Can these two forces co-exist?  Yes, with proper leadership.  Voller
exemplifies what it’s going to take to deal with future issues that impact
not only Pittsboro but Chatham County and its neighbors. He recognizes that
we can no longer be bound by the borders of the communities in which we
live.  We need to all be thinking “outside the box”—recognizing that
Pittsboro has come SO far under Voller’s leadership and has even greater
upside potential for being a model community that offers the best of the
worlds in which we currently live.   We can enjoy the country atmosphere and
heritage of a community that dates back to the founding of our nation.  And,
at the same time, we are within minutes of vibrant universities, the
amenities of the RDU area, and the job opportunities that make North
Carolina unique.

Voller may well be the glue that holds Pittsboro together—and the super
glue that keeps Pittsboro in the forefront of working county-wide and
statewide to deliver on the promise of a bright future for all of its
citizens.  He’s demonstrated the strength of character, the inventiveness,
and the political savvy it takes to nurture and protect the community, while
helping it play a role in crafting creative solutions to problems shared by
citizens throughout Chatham County and beyond.

By: Dr. Jeffrey Jones/UNC-G

I am writing on behalf of Pittsboro Mayor Randy Voller, who has done a great
deal in his two terms and is capable of a great deal more if given another
opportunity.  My name is Jeff Jones.  I am a history professor at
UNC-Greensboro, and I have known Randy Voller for almost twenty years.  I
grew up in nearby Liberty, NC, so I know a bit about small-town, North
Carolina politics.  Randy’s vision of Pittsboro is that of a wonderful place
for people to live, and his actions to date have proven that.  He has
secured grants for improvements in transportation and other areas to the
town’s daily life, proving that his leadership is a key ingredient for the
future of Pittsboro.  Randy’s goal of containing sprawl and developing the
downtown is exactly the direction the town needs to go in—we do not need
another Cary.  The beauty of his vision for the town is not surprising given
that Randy has a vested interest in Pittsboro’s future—he is not an
“absentee” developer, he lives here and has a thriving business in the
 community.

Randy has been by far the most active mayor in Pittsboro for a long time,
and that is a good thing for the town and everyone in it.  In this modern,
rapidly-changing world Pittsboro needs an active mayor, not just a
figurehead who cuts ribbons from time to time.  Randy has shown himself to
be just the sort of mayor Pittsboro needs, and clearly he has earned a third
shot at the helm.

I knew Randy long before he became a local businessman and mayor.  He is the
kind of guy one could always call on to help move or to lend you money, and
I know because I’ve done both.  We’ve watched and played many basketball
games together over the years.  Randy has also helped me buy a home, for
which I will be eternally grateful, and our families meet at the beach
together with other friends for a week every June.  I can assure you that
Randy Voller is a man of the utmost integrity, honesty, and decency, a
rarity in modern politics.  Randy is the kind of man who will help anyone
out when they need it, including lending a down-and-out mutual friend of
ours a car for an extended period of time and allowing a family displaced by
hurricane Katrina to live in his home.  I have known Randy through many good
times, such as his marriage to my good friend Lesley Landis, who is a
remarkable woman in her own right.  And I have know Randy through some bad
times, including the tragic death of his beloved infant daughter, an
experience that I as a father can hardly fathom having to go through.  The
voters of Pittsboro are in a prime position to elect a wonderful person,
Randy Voller, as their mayor for a third term.  Vote early and cast your
ballot for the incumbent mayor and we can all rest assured that Pittsboro
will be in good hands.

Did you add the thread about Crawford because you feel a little silly posting about yourself?

It includes reaching out to all audiences, all
constituencies, and all stakeholders, regardless of where they live and
vote.

And taking their tax dollars for the pet projects of the mayor of a little town...

If we want to consider who embodies this type of collaborative, collegial
thinking and puts it into practical use, we need look no farther than to the
current Mayor of Pittsboro, Randy Voller.

Because he solicits so much input from people outside his groups of flunkies friends.

Moreover, his vision has created a new recognition of Chatham County as a sleeping giant
of opportunity for commerce, recreation, residential communities and
innovation that wants to preserve its bucolic, small-town atmosphere.

A vision that has resulted in exactly $0 worth of economic benefit to the residents.
A vision that has monthly notices of water violations still coming in residents' mail.
A vision that spends money frivolously, without prioritization or need.
A vision that treats the taxpayer as a piggy bank, rather than a boss.
A vision of elitist "know betters" telling the rubes how to live their lives...

We need to all be thinking “outside the box”—recognizing that
Pittsboro has come SO far under Voller’s leadership and has even greater
upside potential for being a model community that offers the best of the
worlds in which we currently live.
So far as in?...............  crickets................

Do the people of PBO feel nurtured?  What did PBO ever do without MayorV?  It must have fallen apart without his "super" glue.  One wonders how they "held it together" "from the founding of our nation" until the advent of Voller?

I'll tell you what... the LBD certainly is nurturing, "protects" the community, sure was "thinking outside the box"...

Mayor Voller works with the folks in our local and state governments and with the people who TRULY care about Pittsboro and the future of our small town...if you think that Pittsboro can remain unto itself and not be an active part of the regional and state governments then your head and your other body parts are definitely in the sand....think about the needs of this community before you vote someone out of office on the sour grapes campaign....what does the other candidate stand for?

Ah yes, the needs of the community...

If a need couldn't be demonstrated for the magic bus, then why did Voller push so hard for it?  I suppose it had to do with vague notions of us needing to be more cosmopolitan.  Although, I wouldn't put those kinds of considerations under the "need" column.

It should last a couple of days, then it will probably quiet down for a while.  Then we have the spring primaries coming.
