When you're feeling slow, grab a "shot of 'spro"!

« on: November 03, 2009, 10:42:33 AM »

Just to make it clear, I and my family are not POLITICAL! If our friends are hard core fans or friends of a specific politician, that is their thing, not mine. If a politician doesn't like someone we are friends with, that is their problem. I judge no one for who they are, who their friends are, or even what party they represent! I don't care about your race, religion, or your political view, I enjoy talking to anyone. I was not raised that way!

What bothers me most is someone who sends someone else to do their dirty work. You have something to say, come to me and say it!!

I am a new business in this county and have hit more brick walls over politics and red tape you could ever imagine. It is getting ridiculous.

The business we started was something we wanted to do with our teenage children on a part-time basis to teach them work ethic and build on their responsibility and independence as they grow to adulthood, and it allows my husband to occupy his time for a few hours a day. Our goal is to stay in Chatham. My husband was born and raised in this county. I have been here for 15 years. We want to operate our business here, but it seems other parties are trying to prevent it from happening because of who we are friends/associates with. It needs to stop! Get to know us and stop judging us! Only one person in this world should be judging us and it isn't you.

We are not Pittsboro residents and have no interest in Pittsboro politics. Let it go!

For those of you that have supported us from day one, THANK YOU! This county preaches about buying local, but how many politicians/big business actually practice what they preach! Us small businesses need to stick together and support one another and for those of them that I have met, we are doing a pretty good job. Chris from Virlie's Grill, Gary and crew from NC Signs, Karen & Larry from Larry's Cheesecakes, Gene & Vickie from S&Ts, Donna from Our Neighborhood School, Noel from The Irish Farm and Horse Rescue, the list goes on...

Starting this evening, November 3rd from 5 pm - 8 pm, we will be stationed at the OLD Pittsboro Ford lot on Business 64 with the veggie/fruit guy, Noel. We will also be there weekday mornings from 7 am - 10 am. These hours/days depend on our other scheduled events we have planned. Starting November 23rd, we will be there most evenings until 10 pm through Christmas Eve since Noel will be selling Christmas Trees and wreaths. I believe the new hot dog vendor will be there too! Can't wait to try one of them, yum!

We can do anything from festivals, fairs, grand openings, flea markets, fundraisers (donate 10% of our sales), PTA fundraisers, the possibilities are endless. Our operation serves the best-tasting, custom-made iced/hot/frozen specialty coffee drinks (latte/cappuccino), brew/drip, hot chocolate, hot tea, chai, fruit smoothies and much more...we can make anything the competitors make, just tell us what you usually order from them and we can make it!

We take Visa and MasterCard in addition to cash.

Yes, we were stationed at BB&T in Pittsboro on 15/501 but many of the commuters are going the opposite direction. We just couldn't find a spot on 15/501 North. Our biggest thanks to Katie at BB&T for helping us out during these last two weeks; we tried.

Sincerely,
Tina (and Tommy) Meeks

I am sorry you are in this position.  Some people take their politics a little too seriously.  See the thread about the Carolina Brewery.

That is really, really great that you are involving your teenagers like that! My experiences with Katie at BBT, and with all the people you mention, have been pretty phenomenal, too. Pittsboro business owners are VERY supportive of one another, in my experience, and I'm so glad to know your experiences have been similar. Rock on, kids!

ChefMenteur,

I won't get into the context of why I posted this...the party(ies) involved know why I did it. I am not in business to be politically tied to anyone!!!! I'm neutral in all aspects of politics and religion and I don't want anyone ASSUMING otherwise. Check my voting party - it states UNAFFILIATED! It seems things are happening to us based on who we are friends and/or associates with or who we use to work for. I am not standing down or taking the matter lightly. It takes a lot to get me angry! Be forewarned that I don't care who you are or what you stand for...don't ever use your name or position to get over on me.

I hope that explains it for you.

It should be the perfect place for my wife to stop after dropping my daughter and I off in the mornings.  About how much should I budget for her potential iced mocha and everything bagel with cream cheese habit?

Donnie Springfield,

That would be $5.75 (includes tax) for a 16 oz. iced mocha with fresh bagel and cream cheese. Does that sound reasonable? When I did our menu, I tried to be comparable and cheaper than our competitors. Of course McDonald's is cheaper on the iced mocha, but there is no comparison on the taste and products we use compared to them. We also offer many more products that they don't have. We can't wait to meet your wife and tell her to let us know that Donnie sent her.

Shot of Spro, I am really worried that I might not be able to sell enough hot dogs to support my wife Lynns coffee habit. We are ging to have to barter dogs for coffee. Seriously though, remember two things: If it was easy everyone would be doing it, and always kill em with kindness. You seem like a nice person, dont let these peeps get the best of you. Looking forward to meeting you face to face and working along side you.

For those of you that planned to stop by our new location (old Pittsboro Ford lot) we apologize for not making it there this evening. We wanted to get off to a nice start from 5-8 PM, but ran into a medical issue. My husband has life threatening asthma/allergies and accidentally came into contact with a floral scented air freshener. We are super careful where we go, what we do, what he eats, etc. but something that most people take for granted can kill him in minutes. He is OK, but had to do multiple respiratory treatments and had considered using his EpiPen if things got worse. He said he really wanted to make drinks for those that stopped by, but dying in front of them wouldn't be great customer service. All is OK now and we should be good to go in the morning. Again, please accept our apology as we want to serve all of you with what we consider to be the finest coffee around. Thanks for your support.

Not to worry as we love hot dogs, especially your description of what you're selling. Grilled onions on a hot dog!!! Can't wait to try some....

Even though we started this venture a short time ago we are very determined and won't let anything stand in our way. We are extremely thankful for the local support we have received from some businesses and the many customers we've met along the way. It's just that we always hear the "buy local and support small business" statements and it is said much more than it is done based on what we've seen. And you're right.... if it was easy everybody would do it. Thanks again and we look forward to meeting you guys as well.

I'm sorry for any problems you've had caused by folks who ought to know how to know what the meaning of being a neighbor.

I do hope your husband is okay and that your family realizes its dreams.
