Mia Munn on Bill Crawford from Monday's Chatlist.
(I thought Mia was THE best candidate in last year's Chatham School Board race)

Date: Thu, 29 Oct 2009 21:48:10 -0400
Subject: Bill Crawford for Pittsboro mayor

I strongly support Bill Crawford for Pittsboro mayor. Bill is a lifelong friend of my husband’s family. He has worked in restaurant management for the past 30+ years. He has a family (wife Cathy is a OB nurse at UNC who also works in the ER at Chatham Hospital, one daughter at Horton, daughter and son at PES). He is well-read and knowledgeable in a broad range of topics. He has been interested in government and politics all his life. He is honest, hardworking, smart, tenacious, and loyal.

(In my words) Bill believes that government is a servant of the people. Therefore, the decision-making process should be open and transparent – the people should know what the government is doing. Government is entrusted with the use of some of the people’s money through taxes – so the government should be as prudent with that money as families are with there own. Bill loves Pittsboro, and wants to help Pittsboro grow and develop as the people of Pittsboro desire – not as part of some grand scheme imposed on the local citizens. Bill keeps his promises, personal and professional.

I am sorry that I don’t live within the town limits so I can’t vote for Bill Crawford, but I urge all town residents to give him your vote for mayor of Pittsboro.

Thanks to Bill (and all the other candidates) for running - I wish we had more participation in local government. Please, everyone, consider attending school board, county commissioners, and town commissioners meetings so you know what is being discussed and to voice your opinions. And after you've attended for awhile, think about running for one of those offices.

I agree.  And I'll add that I'm amazed that anyone runs for public office considering how much abuse goes with the experience these days.  I think that the lack of civility really cuts down on the people who are willing to put themselves out there; so like you, my hat's off to anyone of any stripe who puts it on the line like that.

Gene's  offer to close this board this past summer would help expand those who are willing to run for public office. I hope he would axe this board as soon as possible.

John, you keep dreaming that one day this board will stop existing, or at least, Gene would let you control it.  Have you submitted any list of rule lately.

the board isn't perfect, but the good it does far outweighs the negative and I appreciate all Gene does for us and I appreciate the posters on here, yeah some get on my nerves and I'm sure I probably do my fair share of fraying nerves as well, but the bottom line is, if ya don't like it all you've got to do is not read it.

I doubt this board has stopped anyone from running for public office.  "reimbursing" a member of the steering committee of one of the largest PACS/political machines in the county for performing background checks on candidates, turning non-partisan races such as the school board race into a partisan race, changing endorsements for candidates because they didn't fall lock step in with the "steering committee" and other actions of the past few years go further to discourage political competition than any anonymous rants on a BBS ever will.

And if you want the board axed the best way to do that is ignore it, or provide a better one.

It would just be replaced by one that wasn't as well maintained.

Who afraid of the big bad BBS anyway?    Grin

Do you really believe this?  Do you really believe that less "free speech" is good?  How ironic your moniker.

Expand those willing to run for office?  Or allow those with more to hide to do so?

Do you think that it is a good idea to remove one of the few, public avenues with which to communicate with those currently in office?  That it's a good idea for politicians to hear from their constituents less?  And for less information about the actions of public officials to be made public?

Truth does not want people to talk because it ruins the left's agenda. Obama controls the press, thus the attacks on Fox News, no reason to believe local politics will be any different.
