Thanks to all. I've never really had an option for a computer at work and having a choice is great. It's also a curse, but I will take a look at the Apple store. It is being provided by the company so I don't actually have to buy it myself, but maybe a test drive is just what I need. Thanks!

I have heard about the Vista print issues, fortunately I have not had to mess with them as I said my shop remained XP What many people do not understand is applications cause most problems because of poor code designs that step on core OS functions. Well said Tritech!!!
I am just curious, I never have problems with Windows PCs, XP has been rock solid for me on tons of machines at home and work, I avoided Vista. Also, Windows servers are super reliable, Windows 2003 is an awesome product.
Yeah, the NT kernel is a nice thing, but today a Vista box we sold came in because of a no-print condition. I easily spent six hours persistently trying to fix the problem. I read everything on the Internet that was findable. There is no solution, no fix, no explanation in the first place as to why it happens, and Microsoft MVPs all over have been unable to fix it for people. To top it off, I find out that this problem manifests on CLEAN VIRGIN INSTALLS OF VISTA and I gave the hell up. I *$()&)($$#@%*()%@ HATE WINDOWS VISTA. GRRRR. Thus, Linux.

I got screwed by Time Warner Cable.
My 10 year old G4 Mac was just fine, I got done in by lousy service by Time warner, paid through Earthlink.

Okay. Question for the masses. I currently have a laptop and I'm due for a refresh in the next few months, or so I'm told by corporate IT. I have the option of a Mac or a Windows based laptop. Never having had a Mac, I'm unsure if I should make the switch. Help!
get the mac - if you don't like the OS, just run bootcamp and it will be an XP/Vista/win7/linux whatever. the hardware is superior, no matter which OS you choose, you get good HW and a choice of OS. (especially if someone else is paying) PM me if you want a demonstration.

With PCs there is a definite difference between business class and home equipment, I always buy business class.

PM me if you want a demonstration. my 10 (ten) year old G4 was just fine. who knows how long it would, will, run? TEN YEARS! it was the lousy service from Time Warner, and my own ignorance, that made me spend all that money. they could have run a speed check and found the chewed wire, the faulty port, that was their own faulty equipment. GRR! -years ago, the wire dropped to the yard, no clue why. -animal chewed high-speed cable.
-and last month when I started having real problems, they just swapped out the modem, never looked farther. -the "new" modem was faulty, too. bad port.
today 2 guys in 2 trucks replaced the line and modem. now, next week they will put it back up on the pole.

Intel Macs technically differ only from a PC in the presence of EFI firmware instead of PC BIOS firmware. The same Intel chipsets are used in both machines. A Mac is nothing more than a pretty PC with a different type of firmware and a totally different default operating system. Back when Macs were on the PowerPC platform, such arguments could be made. Now such arguments are pointless, as there is too much in common. A computer is a computer, unless you have a mainframe in your closet. *covertly closes closet door with foot* Also if someone else is paying for the Mac, that's cool, but are they paying for a Windows license if he doesn't like Mac OS in the end? "technically" true - however their hardware is more robust. Really an anecdotal statement - I have had all types of computers over the years - my unibody mac running snowleopard is simply the fastest, most stable (after working a few SL tweaks) OS I have ever used. Name one thing that makes a generic PC better than a mac - Use what OS you like - OSX, Linux, Win XP, Linux - I have 4 virtual machines one my laptop - all different OS - yes I paid for my win license but the rest are free.. *covertly kicks door open with glock in hand*

I'm a PC. I visited an Apple friend and she nicely let me borrow her slick little doodad to check email. I was horrified to discover Apples have no right-click. Who doesn't love right-click?
By the way--a year and a couple of months ago, the hard drive in my Dell laptop crashed (no worries--I was fully backed up). For less than $200, the guys at the ALR at Chatham Crossing, a few doors down from Lowes, fixed it up better than new. It was 4 years old then, and runs great. Go there with your woes and go home happy.

My next computer will either be a Mac or a custom built PC. I will never buy another consumer grade PC. The preloaded bloat-ware is a pain to deal with. Just give me one with the OS and I will load it with what I want.

YES. THIS IS TRUTH. The term was coined: "CRAPUTER." A computer pre-crapped with garbage. Free AOL! Free trial of Office! Free stuff you pay for! Spyware toolbars pre-installed! Google Desktop Search! Pre-loaded HP printer drivers for printers you may never buy! WOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Step 1: format c:
