beer from the beautiful South

Hi there!

I've been researching recipes for persimmon beer (both old and new), and I'm gearing up to brew a batch or two. Does anyone have a fruiting persimmon tree with fruit going to waste? Or know where one is?

I would love to harvest a bushel of persimmons and either make you some persimmon pudding or share the beer with you. That is, of course, if I gather enough fruit!

These will be test batches for our new Durham-based brewery, Fullsteam. Though the brewery will be in Durham, I've lived in Chatham for about a decade.

Feel free to post here if you have any suggestions, or email me at sean@fullsteam.ag.

Thank you!

I'm going to go look for persimmons... it's a tough call, though, beer or pudding! YUM!

Sounds interesting. Keep us posted.

I would think that, if you can't find any other sources, Angelina at Angelina's Kitchen would be a great person to get in touch with. She pretty much seems to know what's going on in every farm in the area. Her email is angelinaskitchenpittsboro@gmail.com

I hope she doesn't mind me suggesting her- I know how busy she is, but she's such a great resource for the 411 on local food!
