http://sanfordherald.com/pages/full_story/push?article-LETTER-+Upset+with+Chatham+department-s+use+of+her+farm%20&id=5017812&instance=latest_articlesTo the Editor: As a follow-up to my Nov. 4 letter, I’m writing to express my dismay at Chatham’s Soil and Water Department, which has reneged on negotiations for settlement of damages done by coming onto my farm, using an expired contract, without my permission and destroying some of my property. Of most concern is the removal of approximately 20 dump truck loads of topsoil by professional estimate as they dug a ditch I didn’t want. This ditch was put on a boundary of my land adjacent to a then-planned housing development. It appears to fit its drainage needs as described in documents mailed to me by Jordan Lake Properties. The Chatham County Sheriff’s Department has refused to do an in-depth investigation taking photographs, measurements or soil samples by licensed surveyors. County Manager Horne and other officials have refused my continued appeals and inquires. However, on Nov. 23, I obtained information from Congressman Bob Ethridge’s office that Chatham County Soil and Water had hired someone to do work on my farm. There is absolutely nothing in writing giving anyone such a right. The contract had expired. Only I could renew it and hadn’t. Only I could hire someone to work and hadn’t. I had just warned Soil and Water approximately three months earlier that I hadn’t hired anybody and no work was to be done on my farm without my being there. My file at the Chatham office is open to the public. I hope concerned citizens will check it for irregularities and also at the state level. Also call Congressman Ethridge’s office. that is the behemoth developer that is bullying Durham County into redrawing the watershed lines for Jordan Lake so they can build. they are the first and only group to beat Chuck Kitchen, Durham County's now former Attorney. good luck, they are monsters. http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A271898

Ms. Carr filed suit against the Soil and Water Office, and as I understand it, it was thrown out of court. She made all sorts of unsubstantiated claims in her suit. Since it was thrown out of court, perhaps she is trying the court of public opinion.

as I under stand it, the Haw River Assembly, among others, have taken this developer to court over the last few years. some have lost, then won on appeal. it is still on its way up the ladder on appeal. don't be so quick to judge. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/counties/chatham_county/story/201218.html

The opening letter of this thread makes it sound like this should be open and shut in her favor. I'd be curious to know "the rest of the story."

Unless you are closely associated with the case, how would you be able to claim "unsubstantiated" and then imply she is "trying the court of public opinion". A case being thrown out of court - is that a matter of public record? Just curious!!

I say we find out where their office is and go do some work inside their business with a home made contract.

No, mountain gal, I don't work there, but know someone that Ms. Carr has talked with about it. Apparently, she talks to anyone about it. It was dismissed again in court, but she plans on appealing to the supreme court (her words). We'll see.

I think she is being railroaded. they are railroading the County of Durham, and also the people of NC with their plan to further pollute the Jordan Lake water shed. they beat Chuck Kitchen, and NO ONE has ever done that before. they plowed and dug this woman's land, with an expired permit. they should be stopped. they don't have to ask Chatham County, and Durham has already buckled. do we support this woman,or what??

Sure, I support her. If for no other reason than she obviously feels strongly enough that wrongful actions have been taken, leading to an appeal...Good to see someone not rolling over.
