No dog. We're mighty sad and pretty sure that he's not coming home again.
Don't give up Seavey. I had a dog once (that I believe was stolen), that I ended up recouping almost 7 months after his disappearance! I will keep my eyes open for Tater. I'm in a not too far away neighborhood and will mention to neighbors to keep a watch as well. We are all animal lovers. |

Holy cr*p! seavey, you think it was the cougar/bobcat? I am so sorry for our neighbor! I assume y'all are assuming Tater may have been similarly snatched? This is just awful.

Yes, natv, a big cat was spotted down there a few weeks ago.

a springer spaniel? they are not that bright (my dad raised them to hunt) but good sized dogs. oh, gee. |

It's my understanding that coyotes are perfectly capable of digging under fences, then "inviting" the dogs within to come out and play. And they will stand outside fences and try to entice dogs within to join them. Coyotes are not called wily for nothing.
I suppose it's possible that the dog might have dug its way out to chase a bobcat, but that seems less likely, given the low profile that the cats like to keep.
I live nearby, and I have decided to NEVER leave a pet outside without a human watcher. Maybe a fully enclosed run would work, but the floor would either have to be concrete or I'd have to bury the same wire mesh into the ground that's used to repel groundhogs.
Poor puppy dogs. Good thoughts for all the lost pets.

Springers are hunters and active, curious dogs, unfortunately it sounds like this one was hunted. I am so sorry for the owners that lost their pet.
Mercy, if it's not the deer, rabbits eating your landscape, squirrels terrorizing the bird feeder, it's other wild beasts devouring your pets.

I wish I could afford to fence in my property to whatever standards it takes to fend off such. But as has been pointed out it means digging deep to prevent dig outs/ins and who knows how high if such a measurement exists for big cats!? (Unless of course you have a canopy cover like the CPT)  Crossing our paws here! |

Here is a great design that gets really noticed- http://www.missingpetpartnership.org/recovery-posters.phpKeep checking with the animal shelter too, 542-7203 and area vets. Also, depending on where you live you might also try the orange county shelter. 967-7383. Check craigslist lost and found too. Hoping that you find him soon. |

Well, I trusted the elements too much last early wee hours of the morn. Kitter went out to nature's calling (refuses to use a litter box), and about 15 min. later I heard a distress scream from my kitter. I almost tore the door off the hinges running outdoors screaming. A bobcat was after him. My kitter barely escaped and I went after this beast between the two of them with less "armament" than what I hope to if another encounter...
