Around 5:30 Saturday evening I came up on a wreck on Jones Ferry Rd.  I'm not sure what county I was in so I'm posting on this thread.  It appeared that a pedestrian had been hit by a car.  Does anyone have more details?  I'd love to know that the guy is ok.

I agree with Maxine!  Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist.'

''In Carrboro, Melinda Grossman, 60, was killed Saturday afternoon after she stopped her car along Jones Ferry Road, near Ferguson Road, after another driver hit a cat. As she bent over to help the cat, a third car hit and killed her."

Ferguson is right before the co. line.

A little kid was killed about ten years ago in almost exactly the same circumstances on Jones Ferry.  People drive much too fast for the road--I'm not saying the driver in either case was necesssarily at fault, but it ought to be possible to deal with unexpected circumstances when you're driving.  After all, Jones Ferry is also chock full of deer.

I remember the accident with the child. Sad.
Some other news accounts on this accident stated, the driver was not speeding. The lady was wearing dark clothing and apparently in or near a curve and the person didn't see her in time to even apply brakes.
I can believe that, as I was on Jack Bennett recently about same time of eve, raining and a little foggy. Some guy was walking on the pavement of that narrow, winding road. Black toboggan, dark coat/pants/shoes. I was going 40 in the 45 area and I was within feet of him before I saw him. My headlights reflected off his glasses, which was what I first saw and swerved slightly, the car behind me almost hit him.

I very much agree that often pedestrians seem oblivious to the fact that they are invisible because of their clothing.  That's why I said I wasn't accusing either driver in these specific cases of being at fault.  There are a handful of times in my driving life when it was entirely luck that I didn't hit a pedestrian or a cyclist.  There are spots on Jones Ferry where, in the late afternoon, the sun is directly in a driver's eyes right in a curve--and as much as one slows down or takes whatever measures--it is possible to hit someone if someone happens to be there.

At the same time, a lot of people go too fast for the conditions on our rural roads.  I've been run off the road a few times by folks simply driving towards me on the wrong side--passing or whatever in a curve or under the crest of a hill.  And in those circumstances, sometimes there's no time to react.  I've just been lucky, even if I was also driving at a moderate speed.  I'm sure we all have.

The trooper investigating the accident on Jones Ferry has stated officially that no charges will be filed, and that the driver was not speeding.  Wral has the story and updates it.

All the articles and news said the woman hit was wearing dark clothing and the motorist was not speeding. That is a bad section and the SHP said there were no skid marks which meant the driver did not see the woman so there are no charges. Assisting animals is a wonderful thing but people need to more catious as to what is around them. Reports were that her flashers were not on either. Just a sad accident.
