I am not sure how I feel about this. Judge Baddour is turning out to be a quite conservative judge, in the sense of making decisions based on fairly strict interpretations of the law. while this may seem to be a "liberal" decision, his reasoning is that the law is poorly written, and needs to be cleared up.

Judge overturns part of state sex offender law

PITTSBORO, N.C. — A judge in Chatham County ruled Thursday that part of the state law restricting the activities of registered sex offenders is to too vague to be enforced, and he declared it unconstitutional.
Superior Court Judge Allen Baddour also dismissed criminal charges against two men who had been indicted under the law because they were around children while attending church...

The law certainly needs to be fixed. I detest judicial activism, but, this law is used as a net to collect people without criminal intent.  The legislature should address this and the standard the judge applied seems reasonable. Working at a day care center would be primary use and not allowed, but men could still go to church, even if the church had a secondary activity on the same premises, such as a Sunday school class for children.

all right, CHF! this makes 5! or 6? times we agree, in 2 years. not bad.

Allan Baddour was a good, aggressive attorney when he defended people. I was sort of amazed he was selected judge, because I thought he might be considered too "liberal" but that has not been the case at all.

he is fair, and thoughtful, and a good interpreter of the law, as written.

Not only does Allen Baddour do a phenomenal job as a judge, he is a great individual!  We miss seeing him coach for the YMCA! He coached my daughter for several soccer seasons and basketball seasons!  She learned so much about the sports but also team work, character education, self confidence and so much more! It would be nice to have more Allen Baddours in world.
