I don't expect them anywhere but a food source, like a restaurant, convenience store, or grocery, or a gas station, which is the law.

BTW, if you search google about the laws about bathrooms, we are already on the first page, with NCYippie's post.

I did find this price tag. talk about sticker shock:
Quote
Nov. 17--SWANSBORO -- Some folks call it "the throne."

And the throne-like price tag attached to a future public restroom facility in Swansboro had the Board of Commissioners exhibiting a case of sticker shock.

Swansboro's governing body found an unpleasant surprise waiting in their agenda packet Tuesday night when a bathroom they believed would cost around $72,000 mysteriously doubled in price.

Town Manager Larry Faison said the concept of a public bathroom located in the historic downtown district first emerged almost two years ago.

With the daily flock of downtown shoppers and events such as the ...

Of course "all the money they make" is for the SCHOOLS in our county, not to line their own pockets.

mom's job to plan and prepare for potty training, not the PTA's.
Money for the schools?  NOW that's funny!  Just like the lottery I guess?  I haven't really seen any changes or much improvements from that money yet!  And as the for the potty training remark, Moms aren't training a puppy... children GO when they NEED to!  Try being a little more understanding :/
I believe the Thrifts report every year the profits that go to the schools in great detail. They work VERY HARD to achieve the goals that they do.
If you don't like what they do, how they operate, or the lack of public restroom, then go to a mall, then report back the results of % that directly benefits our local schools. JMO.
Now, that's just down right RUDE! Actually, the prices at the THRIFT store are getting close to the malls! Not to mention, all the JUNK they try selling!... And I would to personally love to see those percentages.... Angry

If you don't like the Thrifts product line, why are you going there? You are certainly free to go elsewhere.
I can't provide you the entire details of the profits/% donated. I don't work for them. I just have read past reports of results of how profits have been distributed to schools...what the schools DECIDE to spend it on may be another?
I don't feel like you are being fair to their mission, and it's NOT about your personal convenience, just saying.

oddly, the 9:09 remark about rudeness and high prices (?) and JUNK at the thrift store got deleted. big surprise, that.

Angela, do you do more than sell beer?
WOW!  What R U implying?  Yes I deleted that because I really didn't feel like being as low as some of you with Ur one sided opinions. I was simply stating that the THRIFT STORE should have a restroom!  No need for any hostility. I just really felt bad for the child. I don't do construction and have NO idea of how much a restroom would cost, NOR do I care. I am in customer service and I'm always trying to make people HAPPY... I'm sorry if I opened a can of worms??? :/

um, yeah, except the only part deleted, but saved in quotes by others were:

the part where you complained about the thrift shop prices!

and where you complained about their quality! like, they choose the stuff.

and the part where you question the % that goes to schools.

I do not have any children in the CC Schools anymore, but when I did, I know that the teachers appreciated the PTA Thrift Shop money very much. I found the CC Schools 2007-2008 Annual Report and here is what the Thrift Shops gave to the schools that year.

so if each of 3 shops put in a public restroom that would be 100% OR MORE of the annual earnings, for one year, way to go Angela-beer-seller.

...when the mother asked the store clerk, she replied "we don't have a public restroom in the store, you need to go next door to giggly wiggly!" as the mother replied, "this is ridiculous!" and continued out the store,

Bad strategy.

When my daughter was little, I was always nice when they told me they didn't have a public restroom, and they always let me take her in the employee's WC.  We'd end up down hallways and in storage rooms and places I didn't even know stores had.  I guess times change.

The PTA Thrift Store money goes directly to our schools and it is one of the easiest and fastest ways for teachers to raise money for classroom projects.  I don't know why you haven't noticed any changes but the money does LOTS of good.  It is offensive the way you refer to such an extremely helpful entity as the thrift store as if they were just greedy and keeping th emoney for themselves.

I think I am being understanding, I just don't see how it is the shop's responsibility to provide a toilet.  There is one nearby.  If the child is at a phase in potty training that she has to go so urgently with such short notice perhaps they should stay home or training pants are called for.  REgardless it is the PARENT'S responsibility to know where bathrooms are and plan around the potty training.

I volunteer at the PTA. Please let me put this in to perspective. The restrooms are located in the WORK AREA. This area is stacked high with merchandise waiting to be sorted and priced. It is congested and dangerous. It is not feasible to create a safe walkway to allow the public to access the restrooms. We don't even have enough room to store our merchandise. We have to rent tractor trailer beds to use as storage. We are not a retail store national chain. We are a group of VOLUNTEERS as in working for free with a SMALL staff of underpaid, overworked employees. May I make some suggestions. Express more appreciation to the volunteers raising money to better the schools in your county. Realize how overworked the paid staff is at these store. Quit complaining and get off your butt turn off your computer and go volunteer an hour and become part of the solution.
I am very insulted by the posting saying we "just don't want to clean the restrooms" Does that person think we would use unclean restrooms??!! Cleaning the restrooms is a daily assigned duty.

I agree with most of that RK. I think that if the thread had just been titled "It Sure Would Be Nice If The PTA Thrift Store Had A Restroom" the response might have been more friendly. Then to basically call the staff members, many of whom are volunteers, lazy is - big surprise - insulting, of course.

As a parent, I understand the concern and the desire for a restroom. But to take that desire and then start criticizing others with very little knowledge of the subject at hand is certainly a bit rude. Did the little girl tell her mother 5 times before that she had to go and the mother ignored it? I'm not trying to say she did or start a fight, I'm just saying that I have been in that situation myself. As I mentioned in the earlier post - the idea that every store has a restroom is just misinformed. I don't think CVS does, a huge corporation with millions in revenue. If they do not serve food or drinks at tables, I do understand why. Again, I can understand the emotion regarding the situation as presented, I just think the anger is misplaced.

Just this year the PTA paid to have a water fountain installed on the playground that the school could not afford. You "haven't really seen any changes or much improvements" because you simply have no idea what you are talking about. Nobody is upset with you for asking the question, the problem here is that you are calling people you don't know lazy and also seem to be saying that they don't use the money for schools, which is comical to anyone who actually knows the facts. So I will also give you the benefit of the doubt that you are just upset or whatever, and still say hello and welcome aboard and all that. Just chill out with the misinformed accusations and people might be a bit friendlier. Just saying.

RK - I read my post again - must apologize for the way it sounded.  Having had a job where cleaning a bathroom was part of the job description - I meant it can be disgusting to clean a public bathroom!!  It was not meant in any way to imply the workers just didn't want to - even though I would not blame them.  Having been down the  "potty-training trail", I can remember scooping my child up and heading to the nearest bathroom - just remember thinking how nice it would be if the bathroom could be at the front of the establishment.  The "so much for that sale" comment - just a reflection.  So many times, after not making it to the bathroom in time with my child, I would just pack up and go home.  I know - plan ahead and carry a spare!!  As for the thrift shop itself, unless you are closely associated with the schools, no one can fully appreciate the organization!  Yes, we as parents still supplement the classroom with kleenexes, stickers, goodies, but without the Thrift Shops, our children would have done without!  A check for $50,000. goes a long way to supplement and enrich their lives in the classroom.

They need a restroom there, regardless of the "labor" it would entail... and not just for the kids, either.  Some old folks need such things in a hurry as well.

That, and simple decency.  Didn't the Sears store have a restroom, when it was in that same location?

Why don't the non-profits team up in a case like this?  I mean, why doesn't Habitat offer to build the PTA a restroom if PTA helps man the Habitat store for a week or so?
