I'll repeat myself:
If the storage area is truly so unsafe that a mother couldn't escort her child to the bathroom, then OSHA ought to be called for the sake of the workers and volunteers.

If this was a private business, it would be shut down or shouted down. Once more the statists take every chance to excuse the poor condition of the non-profit/governmental world, while trying to convince us that we need even more of it.
You mean private like the Dollar General right next door in North Chatham? Or do you mean the CVS? Or did you mean Pope's? There goes that point. Once again, some people use every opportunity to bash non-profits and volunteers even when their facts are wrong. Many private companies that don't serve food do not provide rest rooms and do just fine, so the idea that this non-profit would be 'shut down or shouted down' if it were private is demonstrably false as well as misleading. I'll admit that you did say they perform 'an incredibly good service in a difficult environment.' However, one anecdotal incident should never be used to set policies or budgets. Discuss it fine, but to say 'this is what to do' with no regard to the bottom line would be foolish for any company.

Bravo Yippie. Plain and simple, they are not required to have a public restroom, as they do not serve food or drink. The area where the restrooms are located are in an employee only/restricted work and storage area. They clearly post signs stating they do not have a public restroom. And, yes check the facts...these stores have played an important role in the community via hundreds of thousands of dollars donated to the schools each year, students learning about volunteerism and offering very affordable clothing and goods to some who can't afford other stores. It's also another form of recycling. I like the treasure hunt aspect myself!

It would be much cheaper to invest in some pull-ups. Again, it would be nice and I am not against it. I just think the bashing is at best misguided.

Children sometimes use pullups as a crutch and are slow to potty train, neither of my children used them, occasionally they had an accident but they quickly learned to hold it rather than soil their clothes.

This might not have anything to do with peeing or Piggly Wiggly, but the PTA rep at Jordan-Matthews is about 3 peanuts short of a Snickers Bar and 3 Crispies short of a Nestle's Crunch.

You're still lucky that someone volunteers their time to help out the kids.

The conversation is about peeing - not PTA reps. What is the purpose of a character analysis? At least that person is involved - maybe just not to your liking.

I don't see the big deal about not having a public restroom at the thrift store. Parents, it is your responsibility to see that bladders are emptied, not the thrift shop employees. And accidents happen, it is a part of the training. Run next door to Piggly. Ever been to Europe or NYC? Very few public restrooms.

I thought all public stores were required to have a public restroom? When I was working on opening a new store in town a few years back, I was even supposed to update the old restroom in there to make it handicapped accessible. No food or drink sold there. What is the criteria tohave to make a restroom public?

No, I don't think that is the case. A restroom yes. A public restroom? I don't think so.
Just too many places around that don't have them for that to be true.

I was told by the town it had to be handicapped accessible so any any customer can use it. It was a requirement. i thought it was odd that I had to update it, but the former tenants didn't.
