Travelers did the same thing to me.....went from 750 to 1150 a year.  My agent said if I moved my autos with them it would be reduced.  So - either move all into one policy or pay more for one.  Sounds like extortion to me.  Regardless, they now have no policies of mine NOR will they ever.

I had Travelers too for everything..home, auto and they jacked prices last year just as they did to you so I switched to Allstate.  Just got my renewal for home and auto...up over 20%!  All that research for nothing.
Just be aware that for every agency you inquire, they access your credit.  Each tap on your credit has a negative effect on it so choose carefully.

I did some more research and found than being in rural Chatham county may be  one of the reason the rates are so high. Apparently insurance companies have decided that they would rather not insure homes without access to fire hydrants.
Also found out that car insurance cost more in Chatham than wake as at first the agent thought she could save me $450 on my cars  but she had thought I was in Wake when she redid it for Chatham I could save only $250.
Tonight's WRAL news reported our coastal residents have taken the rates hike to a federal judge because the rate went up %30 .
SO our insurance is going sky high and now our state is deciding to raise our taxes by adding sales tax to services, right now its only on goods. NC is in the top 20 states for local and state taxes .
