Farrington Hair Salon was broken into on the night of 12/30. Made a mess but nothing substantial was missing. Who would break into a beauty shop??? Idiots as well as being crooks!! I guess they were looking for a little loose change!

Sorry to hear of another small business to be hit. Hopefully something will break soon on the perps.
This is a LOT in a concentrated area of late.

Who knows Donnie? I posted that story on the another thread when I saw it and when B & E's started in Chatham, wondering if the same person/group was just moving around the area.
I just want to start seeing some arrests!

when I had a retail store on Franklin St, the insurance premiums were determined mostly by the size of my glass store front. I was mystified at the time. then I had to replace the first one, due to a break-in.

""They just smashed through the glass," Holbrook said. "All the magazines were on the floor, and one of the keys to the register was stolen."

Related? you bet they are, but each cluster is probably a local cluster of thieves. here at Cole Park, it is the crack houses in the trailer park and rental houses near the intersection.

Can't help but think, hm, are thieves considering Chatham businesses to be easy targets? Seeing as, no arrests appear to have been made in any business robberies in the past month or so?  (maybe the website hasn't been updated)

Sure would like to see the incorporation of robberies/larcenies/damages to businesses within the website, rather than solely arrests made.

I would like to see reports of break-ins and robberies, just to be aware. the sheriff's website only reports arrests, which are few and far between.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Ernie is a nice guy and works very hard to keep his business going.

I don't know if it was the same group, but someone broke in to the Hop Shop at Carolina Brewery in PBO too on New Year's eve and took the money out of the register.  Personally, I would have stolen the doughnuts instead, they are delicious.

Well, I decided to email the reporter from the WRAL article regarding the activity in this area and also added that Chatham hardly ever gets any sort of coverage and that folks are finding out by word of "mouth". She immediately emailed me back, thanking me for the "tip" and they would be checking things out for a possible report on the break-ins around here as well.
I hope any victims of these break-ins don't mind I did so. I didn't indicate business names, just the various small shopping centers in the area. I figure the more awareness, the more hope that someone will notice something and these people will get nabbed.

Thanks natvrabit!!  If you have time why don't you send a copy of the same e-mail to WTVD and NBC17 too?

We spent yesterday with friends over in Heritage Hills, a neighborhood just north of the Chatham County line.   They were very upset when we told them about all the break-ins just "down the street" from them.  As I did when we lived there, they do an awful lot of shopping at Cole Park and Chatham Downs.

The info is just not getting out the way it could/should be.

Yes! Tis a shame that with all of the easy technology around, we rely on word of mouth for these things.  Once again, kudos to Gene for the BBS and the services it provides.

Geezus, another....what locally-owned business hasn't been broken into?!

Good idea Becky. Have to run some errands right now, but may bombarde some of the other news outlets.
N&O has an article on Beggars and Choosers. Mercy, one thought is perhaps someone hid in the store and came out for the 5 finger "purchase" once closed. Pam returned to the store a very short time after closing.  Shudder to think if she had walked in on them! I hope these culprits are nabbed before someone gets hurt.
Anyone go to B&C sale yet? I already have more "stuff" than the law should allow. I don't EVEN need to go acquire more!

Anyone hear if the authorities are any closer to catching the thieves?

Carrie

I certainly hope so, and an arrest to follow soon and put an end to this nonsense. Perhaps with area LEO agencies working together it will happen.
Meanwhile, partake in the services that these businesses offer to us, so they can remain with us!
I visited Panda Garden this past week. Glad to see business was brisk.
