Knowing that the temperatures are due to drop all day....I am wondering why the school system chose not to have a two hour delay.  Areas that were water this morning are now sheets of ice.

I am hoping the school system is paying attention to the number of accidents that have occurred in Chatham County due to black ice this morning. Students in the school system have been in accidents this morning trying to get to school.

The odd thing to me was that all counties around Chatham were on a delay.  WRAL had an article that one reason that Wake county was on a delay was because of the teenagers driving to school.  I realize that it is a hard call to make sometimes.  However, this morning several teenagers were in accidents that could have been prevented.  I had no idea until taking my younger child to school this morning that black ice was an issue until we took a little slide...and to think that I made the choice to send my teenager out on the road to school makes me sick.  Next time, I will make the call...Its much better to be safe than sorry.

How is a two hour delay going to help with temperatures falling throughout the day causing refreezing later on? It seems like that would have people driving to school later on, when it is apparently more likely to freeze.

It would have allowed time for them to see that things were icing and then could have called school off.  I would much rather be safe than sorry.

There are roads in this county that have areas that are shaded the majority of the day, if not the whole day (Lystra, Jack Benett, Manns Chapel, Hamletts Chapel, Alston Chapel, Old Goldston, just to name a few).  Even with the sun out and drying the roads, these areas will still be icy this afternoon.

I just think that a delay would have been a better situation than the one that we had this morning.  In the North Chatham area, black ice was pretty bad.  Lystra Road and also Jack Bennett had black ice all over it.  With the commuters going to work, car riders being driven, buses in the midst of it was a disaster.  I hope that the teenager that had an accident on Jack Bennett is ok as well as his little brother.  It looked pretty bad and traffic was backed up.  It just seemed that the weather was better at 10:00 than it was this morning at 7:30.  I just said a silent prayer to myself when I talked to my teenager who made it to school safely.  Hope everyone else did too...

The little brother was taken for x-rays on his arm and hand.  I didn't hear anything about the driver.

I see, that does make sense.

I first slipped 12 miles from the house this morning around 6:55 this morning, by that time many buses were on the road already. My car was wet when I started out but as time went by the water still on it froze. My children are picked up at 7:05, once the buses are rolling it is hard to turn them back

Husband said when he left this morning at 8-8:15ish that there was a school bus that had just been pulled out of the ditch on Hillside Dairy Rd just off of 64.  It was just 1/2 a mile or less from here though we didn't hear anything from it and we are fairly close to the road.  Crossed both lanes and into a cow fence.  Said no kids were seen.  Assuming the time, they must have already been picked up by another one?
