If there are crimes that have been committed, they should both face the music. If you dig deep enough we all are law breakers in one way or another? Funny how that only seems to come up when we are talking about someone like Palin.

Did you go 1 MPH over the speed limit this morning? If you did than you are a law breaker and need to see Mustang blue light in your rear view.

I agree if either/both abused power/position and committed wrongdoings, then they should be charged accordingly along with any enabling cohorts. Ruffin Poole comes to mind or Todd, whomever.

Actually, if you are speeding, you are speeding. That's a chance anyone who drives 10 mph over the speed limit takes. So likewise, now that she has been caught by 'radar' she should have to face the music. To me, if public records laws say your communications about state business are meant to be a part of the public record, to engage in 'off the record' conversations to avoid the spirit of that law is wrong.

Likewise, speeding for a few minutes in error - whoops I went a bit faster than I meant to be going - is different from willfully not reporting buildings or using fraud to collect $17,000 in per diems. This is almost as good as Palin defending Rush for his recent comments. As far as I'm concerned, Palin and Easley can share the same cell.

It's really funny to see the 'we are all criminals' defense for this type of behavior. Why don't we just hold them accountable instead of clouding the debate with vague concepts about the injustice of speeding laws?

IMO she's just another idiot politician that's using the system for personal gain, fame and power instead of truly being interested in public service, and if she or her family broke the law then she/they should face the consequences.

Unfortunately as members of the political class they're afforded privileges that the rest of us don't have.  They're able to use the "we're all lawbreakers" excuse or the "I didn't know it was illegal" i.e. C. Rangel or the various ones invented/used by the Kennedy "dynasty"

It's just frustrating that the same ones that impose all these ridiculous rules and regulations on us don't have to follow them.

And further into this discussion...it is one thing to hold your constituents to a high standard...but feel you are above any wrong doing in the same areas....sure we all break laws...most are highway infractions but broken laws none the less...but to take a person to task for breaking the law that you yourself are breaking...is kind of stupid...because somebody you p*ssed off at some point or some reporter is going to find out...and that little cutest look you give folks is not always going to cut...besides...you can't fix STUPID.

When you are on the highway breaking the laws..you are playing Russian Roulette with the State Troopers, County Mounties or Pittsboros "Stang" and the odds are in your favor....but when you take a stand in public on certain issues...you set yourself up for scrutiny....and you better be able to withstand the microscope.

Well, when a bunch of tax evaders can be appointed to some of the highest positions in government, what kind of precedent does that support for "holding them accountable"?

Not much, I'd say.
