not till late, and not for long. just late, cold, normal winter rain, mostly.

I have some daffodils with "heads" but far from bloom. I have not seen one yet, anywhere, and I cannot remember them being so late. sigh.

Got an "early" start on winter this year, ready to give it up tho'. It is STILL Feb, sigh...I don't like winter, my least favorite season.

Aha! this might explain the MIA daffodils:

"Question: I'm an NC native and this February seemed unusually cold. How does this February rank in terms of temperature?
Answer: Your impression was on target, as we finished out February 2010 with an average monthly temperature of 37.8 degrees at the Raleigh-Durham airport. This is 5.2 degrees below the average of all 66 years of data, and the 8th coldest value. February 1978 was the coldest on the list, with an average temperature of 33.1 degrees. Taking a look at the average high and low temperatures for the month, we find that this year came in at 46.7 degrees for the high, 4th coldest on record and 7.1 degrees below the long-term average. The average low was 28.4 degrees, 11th coldest in RDU history and 3.4 degrees below the long-term average."

from a Gregg Fishel web page. 5 degrees is a lot.

I have seen some bloomed twice so far. There are some on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and some on Barbee Road in Durham. I have been looking for signs of Spring every chance I get.

One of my neighbors plantings of Daffodils emerged a few week back but no flowers yet.  We have some Irises that are just starting to pop out of the ground.  A house I drive by has some Daffodils blooming.  The house faces south and the flowers are near the foundation.

Some trees are budding, I hear tree frogs and the birds are starting to sing waking us up in the morning.

Spring is almost here.   Grin

Later,
Dan
