Am I the only one that thinks this is a waste of money and time?  I know it supposed to be a make up day, but does a half day really accomplish anything?  Plus it puts some pressure on parents to figure out what to do about the early release.

The 1/2 day release was sort of a last minute decision wasn't it?

Yes, 1/2 days are a waste by the time lunches are over the day is done.

I agree. It's not doing anyone any favors. 1/2 days are hard on teachers, too! The kids will be koo-koo. But maybe only koo-koo for half a day...not really sure why the powers-that-be decided that.

I think part of the idea may be to allow for travel time for teachers and families who are going out of town for the holiday.

As a teacher I am very happy we have a half day Friday. The kids are crazy regardless of a full day or a half day before break. A half day really helps out.

I have to believe that it is about the travel time for folks (parents as well as educators) who had trips planned long before we knew it would be a make up day.  I am sure there will be a lot of kids out due to the fact that people arranged trips in advance!  As a former educator, I can tell you that the kids are wide open the day before any holiday/break so being productive is a challenge for the teachers.  I am happy to see it as a half-day, more time with my kids on what was suppose to be their break anyway!

1/2 days often feel like 1 and 1/2 days cause kids have lost their minds. That said kids have pretty much lost their minds on these glorious spring days - especially the week before spring break, teachers have lost their minds as well, just in a different way  Roll Eyes
