Well, the folks at Lowes in Chatham Crossing have installed new self check out lanes, very similar to those at HT. Problem is, they are not working very well right now. Mine shut down just as I started scanning and two others did the same while I was standing there. Hopefully they'll get all the bugs worked out soon, but it was very obvious that the checkout people were quite exasperated by them. The worst part is that I have been dealing with whatever bug is going around and I had hoped to get out without offending too many folks with my unkempt appearance. I am glad I managed to slap on a little deodorant before leaving the house.

Thanks for the heads up! Seems like any time a change is made anywhere, it becomes a snafu initially. Hope you feel better soon. I had the "bug"...twice. Not fun!

Thanks natvrabit. I haven't eaten much the last 3 days, and fruit seems to agree with me more than anything else right now.

Whatever works on the intake, that will stay with ya' and build up from there! Took me a good while before I actually had an appetite again. It does get better! It is pretty bad while it is going on however. Will spare details

I know what you're saying. I tried a small piece of steak today and that probably wasn't the best thing.

A friend told me try spicy, to correct (shock?), the course. I did and it seemed to work! First off I did pizza and then followed up with Mexican next day!

The issue with anything like that is that the work crews have exactly 6 hours to install the new equipment when the store closes. That includes running the new wiring, and power to them.
They were starting to put them in wed night when I left

What was wrong with the old checkout lanes? I never had a problem with them.

The Lowes Foods at Chatham Crossing has had the self check out lanes for it seems like more than a year. Did they install something new in the last week?

They've replaced the 3 self checkout lanes at the end with 4 smaller ones in the middle. They are a lot like the ones at HT. There's no conveyor to take the groceries to the bagging area now, you scan your items and put them directly into the bag.

That's a good thing. A few weeks back someone sailed through there without paying for their groceries. Pretty brazen.

That reminds me of a late-night trip to the grocery store a few years back. There was a gum-popping teeny-bopper at the register when the guy in front of me unloaded a huge cartload of groceries. He asked her if it would help if he bagged while she rang them up. She replied, "Like, sure." He filled the cart with open bags and began filling them with items from the belt before they were scanned. She, of course, finished in quick order and commented, "Like it really goes fast when you help bag." I shook my head in amazement.
The next day I called the manager of the store and described the incident giving him the license plate number of the "helpful" shopper. I never heard back from him.
