This idea came from the Indy thread, but I think it would be wonderful to put the political chatter in it's own folder

I really think the forum needs a politics sub forum.

That way all the BS I have to wade through to get to a decent topic would be confined to one or two sub-forums.

You'd have to make two, one for local politics and one for national/world.  That would hopefully free a lot of the political mess out of the general forum as well.

And really the food and music forums ought to be combined.  Some of the sub forums get little to no activity and would probably be better off combined.  As long as we're suggesting anyway.

Here's what showed on on the main page of the forum today
http://chatham-county-nc.com/bulletinboard/index.php/board,1.0.html

Stop wading and find the topics of interest to you by using the main page like a Table of Contents (TOC)

Like a table of contents in a book, the main page lists the titles of the threads.
A table of contents (TOC) can be found in many documents and acts as a roadmap enabling the user to find information quickly.

I take your point, Gene, and there are plenty of topics I don't bother to open. But I'd still like to second or third the idea of a separate Politics category. Then, depending upon how much caffeine I've had, I can decide when to go there.

that might be a nightmare for Gene, and very limiting for members.

many topics go from a general topic to politics, then back. now, they are at least separated to county, state, and national. that is enough, because the lines are not clear between politics and, say, kids being jerks in schools. it is all in your point of view, and that is what we are discussing.

If the hardest thing I have to do today is read 5-6 thread titles before I get to a thread I want to read, I will call it a good day.

As Belle points out, reffing what is "political" and "non-political" would be a full time occupation. Don't have the time.
