Northwood V Soccer wins over Union Pines

Northwood scored a 1-0 victory over a solid 3A Union Pines team Friday night in Carthage NC. Anna Elkins headed in a Casey Norris throw-in with ten minutes remaining in the first half. Despite keeping the ball in the Union Pines half of the field the remainder of the night and taking a total of twenty four shots, their defense bent but did not break. The Union pines keeper, "all 6'2 inches of her" recorded 17 saves. She was fantastic out of the air and had an impressive wing span as well. Even though the girls should have been more aggressive and pressured the ball more, we survived and stepped up our game in the second half. The Chargers continue to improve , learn and gain confidence in themselves game by game. They stand at 3-0-1 with an important conference match next Wednesday at undefeated Science and Math.
