I see it on the radar, but nothing more than a few drops on the ground. On behalf of my thirsty garden, I protest!

I have a friend in Charlotte who had the nerve to complain how much rain they have had to put up with.

That rain on Monday just got so close to us on radar....

And then nothing.....

I am afraid we are in for a drought this year.

Last year I had the garden all set up with a nice manifold and soaker hoses.  We got enough rain and I only had to water twice all season.

This year five the six hoses need to be replaced or fixed.   Cry

Figured I would just hand water since it does not pay to buy five more hoses.   Grin

So this means we will have drought until I give up and buy hoses for the garden.  At which point we will have nothing but rain.....

 Grin

Same scenario occurred here years back with two large perennial beds I planted and placed soaker hoses in. I've not replaced the hoses, nor the plants the deer have eaten or pawed up. Phooey with it!

I'm told recently that if I am not enjoying the work it takes to grown things, then I should stop or reduce the amount of gardening I am going.  It is so hard to do all this work and then the weather and deer don't co-operate, but I think about how beautiful everything looks once it is established and how good the food tastes, I don't seem to mind it as much.  I decided to plant only things that grow easily, and that the deer don't like.  When it comes to my heirloom apple trees, I found a deer repellent that lasts all season.  We can't smell it but the deer can, and so far it is working.  I will get the name of it if you are interested.  It looks like hockey pucks, and you stick the wire it is on into the ground next to the plant, and that is it.  We set up a perimeter of them around the mini orchard and it is working. We got them at Lowes, and they were about $20.00 for two. For me, I just needed to slow down a little.  I hope you won't give up on the garden Navtrabit, you seem to have enjoyed it from what I have read in previous posts by you.  Good luck!!

No, not going to give it up entirely. Just can't do as much as once could. I replaced one perennial bed with flowering shrubs, that the deer had no interest in and didn't require as much in way of watering.
I have have my veggie patch which I enjoy the fruits of my labor with at the dinner table!

About a hundred yards from my house it rained, but nary a drop landed on my place. Sigh.

There's this green line west of us on the radar maps. Could it be, is it possible? Dare I type the "R" word?

Fingers and toes crossed...
