I started a new topic "Laptops in high schools, and digital devices for all grades" http://chatham-county-nc.com/bulletinboard/index.php/topic,18722.0.html to discuss "A Vision for a Total Digital Learning Environment for Chatham County Schools", a topic on the agenda for Monday night's school board meeting (and a presentation being made to the commissioners Monday morning).

The board approved the changes to the transfer policies and to the drug and alcohol policies.

The board members will (when and if they want) be guest bloggers on the district's Hot Topics blog, rather than starting a school board blog. The Hot Topics board will get a more prominent place on the district website. Currently, you click on News on the left side of the homepage, then select Hot Topics blog. Or bookmark this http://chathamcountyschoolshottopics.blogspot.com/

The board passed the required budget resolution for the 2010-11 school year. It will be revised when the state budget and the county budget are finalized.  The non-capital budget totals $79.1 million. This compares to the current year budget of $74.7 million, and a 2008-09 budget of $79.4 million.

Mr. Logan gave 2 documents to the board (which should be posted tomorrow morning). One compares the Governor's budget to the one that has passed the NC House and the one that has passed the NC Senate. The other details the cuts made for next year in the district's budget. He said there are a total of 13 positions eliminated, all which were covered by attrition. He said we should be ok whichever state budget is passed. I'll post those documents when they are available.

Mr. Logan also discussed a streamlined school supplies list (and short wish list) that will be provided to parents. I've asked for a copy of that doc, and will post it when I get it.

See the topic on laptops, the teacher of the year, and Empower Hour for more info.

Mia, thank-you very much for being so conscientious about attending these meetings - and posting your notes the same evening, no less.

The school board needs to put you on the payroll to serve as a liason between the schools and the community.  You are their best advocate!!!  I hope Dr. Logan appreciates your service - I know I do!!
