Tonight has been difficult, our little dachshund had to be put down because her little body was eaten up with cancer. She was 16 years old, now she is at rest.

Dr Walton at the Third Street Vet in Siler is the best vet in Chatham, she went out of her way to help us, she has been so kind and caring, she truly loves animals and her profession.

Someone sent me this and I wanted to share it with you:

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am so sorry, silk hope, I have gotten that poem more times than I can count, or want to.

they are all cremated, and the ashes are in boxes in my bedroom.

get another dog, even if you have another one now. it is the only thing that helps.

I am so sorry for your loss.

THE BEST PLACE TO BURY A DOG

There is one best place to bury a dog.
If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call – come to you
over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path,
and to your side again.

And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.

People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.

The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master.”

Aw rats.  My condolences, SH.  Buried more pets than I care to remember and it never seems to get easier.

My condolences, Silk Hope.  We went through a loss two years ago and we found getting a new puppy right away was much better than the times in the past where we waited awhile. (Keeps you so busy and sometimes exasperated you don't have time to think.  And then there are so many times they make you laugh.)

So sorry to fear it! I have lost several pets to cancer lastly my dear 16 year old cat who died on my lap. It is very hard but I agree with belle.... a new face right away will make you laugh and remember in a better way.

I have never cremated a pet but have decided to when it comes our Weimaraners turn. I want her with me always. Good luck on whatever you decide.

So sorry for your loss SH. Our little furkids hold such a sweet place in our hearts. They ask for so little, and give us so much in return.

RIP to your pup.

So sorry for your loss. The pets help us so much when we suffer other losses and hurts, it does seem only another critter can help when we lose one of them.

i am so sorry. Cuddle your little piggies, then when you're ready, a dog will find it's way to you. Mine always seem to just show up.

I am so sorry for your loss.. I have 2 Pugs, 13 and 11 and my heart aches everyday, thinking of letting them go..they have been my strength since being widowed 2 years ago. I will say a prayer for your comfort tonight...:-0).. I hope to be together again at the Rainbow Bridge with him and all my beloved animals of today and years past....

I too, am sorry for your pain SH.  I lost my beloved yellow lab "Ginger" after 8 years to cancer as well.  We had her get surgery, but then more lumps, and I couldn't bear to put her through the operation again. It had really taken a toll on her.

I have her pic tucked into various place all around the house.  She was such a large part of our family.  She is forever in my heart.
