Does anyone know if this year's seniors will have the same Graduation Project requirement as the class before them? I don't think I've seen any announcement.

Here's the graduation project page on the CCS website http://ds1.chatham.k12.nc.us/graduationProject.nsf/gradProject?OpenFrameSet

This year's seniors should have had their topics approved last year.

Will CCS again enlist the help of community mentors? I had a great experience last year, and would like to do it again. Who are the local school's coordinators? Website only lists Northwood's.

Every senior, every year, needs a mentor, so yes, the schools need community members to help. At the link I posted before, on the left side, click on Contract Coordinators. The coordinators are listed:
Chatham Central ecboyle@chatham.k12.nc.us and lsmerker@chatham.k12.nc.us
Jordan-Matthews rpate@chatham.k12.nc.us
Northwood mjohnson@chatham.k12.nc.us
SAGE srobinson@chatham.k12.nc.us

Chatham County Together will also be finding/matching mentors. Contact gwen@chathamcountytogether.org

I challenge all of you who read my posts: volunteer to be a mentor one semester this year. Let's help kids be successful with this project so the graduation rate can increase above 2010's 74.2%!

Has the superintendent and the school board given their go-ahead on the project and mentor needs? I haven't seen anything about it in the school board minutes.

The graduation project was added as a district graduation requirement in May 2009 as part of policy 3460. http://policy.chatham.k12.nc.us/mediawiki/index.php/Policy_3460#B._Course_Requirements_for_Students_Entering_Grade_9_for_the_First_Time_in_the_2009-2010_School_Year_and_Subsequent_Years

As policy, it is not something that has to be discussed or voted on each year, though it has been mentioned in passing (not in the minutes).

Munn, I see - thanks. I had heard some talk about it possibly taking on a different form this school year.

I wanted to make sure I was correct, so I asked Derrick Jordan, the Director of Secondary Education. His reply: "the Graduation Project will continue to be a requirement for graduation in Chatham County, and there have been no changes at this time. There is a likelihood, however, that some changes will be made for subsequent years. Should that happen, a transition plan will announced, and the affected students and parents will be given ample notice."
