Does anyone know if this year's seniors will have the same Graduation Project requirement as the class before them? I don't think I've seen any announcement.

Here's the graduation project page on the CCS website http://ds1.chatham.k12.nc.us/graduationProject.nsf/gradProject?OpenFrameSetThis year's seniors should have had their topics approved last year.

Will CCS again enlist the help of community mentors? I had a great experience last year, and would like to do it again. Who are the local school's coordinators? Website only lists Northwood's.

Every senior, every year, needs a mentor, so yes, the schools need community members to help. At the link I posted before, on the left side, click on Contract Coordinators. The coordinators are listed: Chatham Central ecboyle@chatham.k12.nc.us and lsmerker@chatham.k12.nc.usJordan-Matthews rpate@chatham.k12.nc.usNorthwood mjohnson@chatham.k12.nc.usSAGE srobinson@chatham.k12.nc.usChatham County Together will also be finding/matching mentors. Contact gwen@chathamcountytogether.orgI challenge all of you who read my posts: volunteer to be a mentor one semester this year. Let's help kids be successful with this project so the graduation rate can increase above 2010's 74.2%!

Has the superintendent and the school board given their go-ahead on the project and mentor needs? I haven't seen anything about it in the school board minutes.

Munn, I see - thanks. I had heard some talk about it possibly taking on a different form this school year.

Munn, I see - thanks. I had heard some talk about it possibly taking on a different form this school year. I wanted to make sure I was correct, so I asked Derrick Jordan, the Director of Secondary Education. His reply: "the Graduation Project will continue to be a requirement for graduation in Chatham County, and there have been no changes at this time. There is a likelihood, however, that some changes will be made for subsequent years. Should that happen, a transition plan will announced, and the affected students and parents will be given ample notice."
