Heard a rumor from my daughter, but I haven't been by there in a while.  Can anyone confirm or deny?  Nice folks there, sorry to see them go if it's true.  I would imagine the rent is pretty high for a store that size.

Yep, I bought 3 videos there for a dollar a piece on Saturday.  DVDs and video games are about 2 or 3 bucks a pop.  Pretty much everything's going going or gone.

There were a few kids' ones there Saturday, but as to what's left now, happy hunting Smiley

Sad to hear this.  The Video Boothe was a great local business.  Anyone know why Chris is packing it in?

From talking with Chris...he could not come to an agreement with the landlord and decided to get out of the business.  He seems pretty happy to hang it up on his terms.

I think the site may stay unoccupied for a little while as the landlord seeks a tenant.  I'm sad to see Chris and Ed go, and I wish them both all the best.

Hmmmm - I remember talking to the owners years ago and that was their argument for moving across the street to their current location.

The only stores that seem to be able to be stable in those shops are franchises.

Different owners.

Ferdinand's, the ice cream place, Aria day spa, the Chinese spot, and Village Pizza are not franchises.  Sure, there are some (GNC, Dominos), but your statment is incorrect.

You forgot Back Solutions Chiropractic Center, it's a one off.  And the young lady that runs it is an excellent doctor.

Also, some chains have actually come and gone as well - the Dollar Store that was there briefly where ALR is now, the Zero's subs place - probably a few more that I can't remember.  Grooves.

I'd love to see a new restaurant/sports bar or something along those lines move in.  Maybe along the lines of the Town Hall Grill in Southern Village or better yet, another Tyler's.  Somewhere you can bring the kids and eat good food, but is also cool to just to go have a beer.

Driving past the 'station' - across from Southern Village - each day makes you wonder what they are thinking there too.  It's been empty for over a year now, maybe longer.  I guess the theory is that you just have to wait until you get you rental price.  Seems silly to not have something there though.

We Tivo movies but now I wish I had gone there more often.  I'd like to see a place that cooks dinner that you can pick up on your way home. Smiley

The "Southern Station" building is for sale, evidently they built it to sell and it's $1.8 million.  That's a lot of money for an independent business owner.

Town Hall and Merlion (Southern Village) both have take out, but yeah, that would be nice to have a bit closer.  Especially in an existing spot like that.

I was an employee there. We had a sign inside the window describing the situation exactly as Chris explained it to you and hundreds of other people, but the landlord saw it and made us take it down.

He did a great job selecting films, but you can only make so much money $3 at a time, and I'm sure the rent was a bit crazy due to the size of the space.  Probably would have been better off in a smaller spot.  Wish him and the rest of the staff the best, great store.  It will be missed.

What I think is silly is that even more empty -- and usually unattractive --
commercial shells are being built when others sit empty for such a long time.
