There the coalition goes with lies and scare tactics again...

Saying 15-501 will end up looking like Capital Blvd. is a lie and dishonest.  But what else do you expect from a group and BOC who promised they'd bring high paying clean jobs to Chatham and open government run by input from the people 4 years ago.

We have NO new jobs, much less high paying clean ones.  The overwhelming response to the major corridors from public INPUT was NO, but they continue to move forward with it, just like they will the LTT again.

They must think we're all stupid redneck farmer locals.

I bet you can figure out why they waited till after election to pass this one.  They do have to have a public hearing on it. Yes they voted to pass it.

You contradicted yourself. First you say they need to have a public hearing.  Then you say they passed it.

What exactly did they do on Monday?  Did they vote to pass it?  Or did they vote to set a public hearing?

They voted in favor of it but by law it must be put before the public.  I attended 2 hearings and most people were not impressed with the major corridors ordiance.

The Planning Board recommended changes to be made before their next meeting.  They have not referred it back to the Board of Commissioners yet and to my knowledge no public hearing date has been set.

As a clarification, the current version they are reviewing would not push anything back 1500 feet.  It would push new structures and parking back 100' to 150'.  The additional requirements (on top of whatever the regular zoning) for site design would extend back 1500' and after that only the normal zoning would apply.

Are the changes that were made in the proposal available to the public yet?

Darn those coalitionistas. Just when we thought we had kicked their sorry butts at the polls here they are directing every aspect of our lives. What are we to do?

Well, I think 15-501 will look like a combo of Capital Blvd. (maybe without it's historical run off floods?) and 15-501 from C. Hill to Durham...strings of shopping centers (none full) and car lots, junk food chains, traffic signals galore and gridlock....nothing like the nice little "Welcome to Chatham Co." signs depict...

natvrabit, do you really speak for 'most' of the people in the county or just 'most' of them along 15/501?  Actually, I really dont care what it 'looks' (a highly subjective notion, 'eyes of the beholder' and all that) like, as long as it is a safe road to drive.  I also see Paul Black of the Triangle J Council of Gov'ts is out front trying to sell this bag of.... whatever... on behalf of the BOC, CCEC and whoever else who thinks this is a fine idea.  His statement is totally false.  It does push commercial and industrial development back 1500 feet by rezoning the corridor RA40.  He will come back with 'but they can apply for a conditional use zoning and permit' which is correct and that may be just a minor problem for a large enterprise.  But for 'mom-and-pop' small businesses that are already severely challenged in just trying to start a business it can be a deal breaker because of the cost involved in going begging to the board for consideration.  I suggest that Mr Black stay out of this debate and just do the job he is being paid to do which is consulting not lobbying, get it done, go home, and let the people of Chatham, which he is not, sort it out.  Flame

If there is an issue with a mom & pop business than perhaps consideration can be given to that variable in order to protect and help small businesses.

Conditional zoning is the better way to go and will protect the public good.

Porkchop, do you have an example of such a small business in mind?

I'm not sure how I feel about this issue, but wouldn't the antiques store and Bathrooms By Bonnie (both next to the Briar Chapel main entrance) count as small stores right on the highway?
