Haw River Christian Academy is pleased to announce that we will offer a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) class in the Fall of 2008.  With the NC cut-off dates changing for Kindergarten, and the lack of a TK class in the Pittsboro area, we have been approached by several parents who have interest in a TK class.  Therefore, we have decided to offer such a program at HRCA, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.  Tuition will be $300 per month for the 10 months of the school year.

In a nutshell, we believe TK should complement but not duplicate the kindergarten curriculum.  It should be more structured than a pre-K class, but less structured than our normal kindergarten.

The transitional kindergarten (TK) at HRCA will serves 5 year olds who do not make the kindergarten cut-off or who just need  an extra year to mature socially, emotionally, or academically before entering kindergarten.  It is ideal for young 5's who have late spring/summer birthdays as well as for older 4's (must be 5 by February 15 of the upcoming school year) who could benefit from a more challenging preschool program.

TK is not simply another year of pre-school.  Our TK curriculum goals are similar to those of kindergarten, but utilizing a modified approach.  Whereas kindergarteners are expected to have longer attention spans which enable them to participate in more whole group instruction, students in TK will be engaged in primarily hands-on and creative learning activities.  A small class size will also offer more one-to-one attention for young learners.  Thus, TK provides a challenging , developmentally appropriate, and nurturing "bridge" between preschool and  kindergarten.

Please contact us if you have interest in this program.
