MYSELF, I charge our local officials to scrutinize the CURRENT conditions. Some of which they inherited by previous poor decisions of their predecessors that just are not going to pan out.

doesn't the EDC  exist to increase the value of the property in Chatham, to increase jobs and business, to increase tax income? is anyone checking up on that nice lady to see what she is doing?

what, 2 pages now. no answer. who does she answer to?

right the Bunkey idea, build homes and the tax income will pay for it, they will send their kids to private schools. that idea. didn't work, no.

now we need services for these people and the tax income isn't there.

any word about new industry? employment for people already here, with no jobs at RTP?

new tax income?

Belle,

Go to this link, and then click on the "EDC Board of Directors" menu.

http://www.chathamedc.org/

Here you will see information regarding each individual that is on the board of directors for the Chatham County EDC, and most likely, they would be the ones that could answer your questions.

Have any of you read the Strategic Plan from April 2008?  I found it annoyingly power point-ey (I hate power point).  While the headlines are intriguing, it seems awfully thin and surely isn't the finished product.  Anyway, the EDC seems to be planning to devote their resources to soliciting businesses of the types that people asked for during public meetings and retaining existing industry.

The best idea I saw was to set up a business incubator.

And I notice that nobody at the EDC has posted meeting minutes since November.  Back then, the minutes show what activities were taking place, although I recall a thread here where it was stated that she actually wasn't doing anything, that these were all activities undertaken by a realtor.  I have no way of knowing or, probably more exactly, not enough interest to do the work necessary to find out.

As to who is minding the store, that would be the Board of Directors.  I could not for the life of me figure out how they are chosen, and, according to the Strategic Plan, even their own bylaws don't accurately reflect how that's done.  However, Patrick Barnes and George Lucier are both on the board of directors, and the board of Comissioners holds the EDC's purse strings.

No minutes since November...does not sound like anyone is minding the store..including the EDC....$150,000.00 is not peanuts to me...maybe this is another let's meet and do surveys and no results!

The same people who created the Chatham Human Relations Department.  You know the one with the intertwinned hands logo, the same logo the Chatham Coalition uses.

So far, THAT department has spent it's time and money visiting Greensboro's Human Relations Department and figuring out how to make our immigration laws "kinder and gentler".  In other words, useless.

What a boondogle!  Dang folks, at this rate of spending, who knows what the tax rate will end up.  But at least we'll have all the bleeding heart eco-envioronmental intellectual bases covered with nice little programs, and plenty of people to work in them.
