Sorry.

The human waste fertilizer is spread around the perimeter of the garden, not on the veggies.

Just great! Nowwwww you tell us.

Where were you an hour before when I told my wife I was headed for the vegetable garden?

I'm going to have some explaining to do do.

Well, regardless of the Briar Chapel situation...rest assured every one of us in Chatham County destroyed some form of animal habitat the moment a spot was cleared for our homes...

As for deer deterrent, I would add the suggestion that the day's dirty, sweaty clothes be laid out around the perimeter of the garden area.  This works to keep the deer at bay as long as the clothes are replaced with "fresh" dirty garments every couple of days or so.

Of course, we were always worried that someone might come up and think they'd stumbled across a nudist colony or something when we had to resort to this for a while, but it worked!  Be advised the clothes will become very UV damaged after a couple of days in the sun (and rain when we get it).

If all else fails, a .243 will put some very healthly, free range meat in the freezer...

Fencing is probably the only sure fire protection and at least 8 ft.  Have heard good reports on the I Must Garden (organic) repellant and made locally I believe. However, most of the time such products have to be reapplied after a rain.
