I for one think it is a tremendous asset to have a small hospital in the county. Many fell to the wayside decades ago and people have been forced to go longer distances to receive the services that a small hospital can provide.

I'm not saying any of them are perfect but some are alot better in care for patients and cleanest.I have been to chatham hospital and waited for over 3 hours before even took back to see the doctor that the nurse said was asleep that what took so long.I have been to chapel hill and set with pain in my chest and wait for many many hours and yes i understand that things happen and might be more important then what I'm dealing with but at least they could tell you what was going on and why such a bad wait. I have been to chatham hospital then straight to unc and then to duke all in the same night with chest pain and finally get told something once at duke  because they were taking to long and I felt that I needed to be seen  even the doctor will tell me that they are not aware of the disease that I have pph and my thing is what was with that what did you go to school for to party all night.

You lost me at the end there with the "party all night" drift...what does that mean?
Been to them "all" it seems in the area..not for myself thankfully, but with elder parents.  None are a picnic as I said. We got what I thought was outstanding care at Duke in one scenario and not so outstanding later. One good experience in Sanford and again a not so good one, ditto S. Pines (get sent around to a lot of specialist needs).
UNC-CH good, bad and the ugly over the course of time. No recent experiences there of my own lately, but did hear a horrible story yesterday from a friend's encounter there. But, generally you only hear the bad news and not to many of the good stories.

Yes lots of good vets in the area if you so choose for your treatment Grin I know virtually all of the roads and backroads in Chath. and I got lost on that melodrama to tour of hospitals in one night...forgive me if I doubt the logistics.

Back to UNC Orthopedic Prompt  Care.  My son broke his thumb recently.  His PCP sent us to Prompt care.  It was REALLY prompt.  We saw Dr. Lang who was great.  We had an xray, saw the doctor, got a cast, made a f/u appt and left the parking lot in less than 2 hours.  Not bad for walk-in care.  We went back for f/u visit, xray and  cast removal.  We were in and out in 30 minutes.

to me its amazing how people go to the ED for HEALTH CARE and expect service like its freakin mcdonalds. no, you CANT have it quickly, no they WONT get you out so you dont miss american idol & no the cup of ice  you want isnt more imprortant than the person in the next room who is getting CPR. having been a patient in the ED a few times ive heard ppl whine and complain about too many things to list. we have unfortunately created a society of ppl who think their problem is more important than your no matter what, and think they are in a 5 star hotel and the nurses are their waiters.

Our 17 month old fell Monday night and busted the area right above her right eye open on her bed frame.  Called a nurse friend to come take a look and she said it definatley needed stitches.  We weren't too fond of the idea of taking her to Chatham Hospital just from hearing others stories (never been to the ER before), but decided they probably do stitches all the time and for this it should be okay.  We waited about 1 1/2 hours before being called back, were put in a room for 30 more minutes, dr. came in to look and finally came back about 20 minutes later.  So overall we were there about 3 hours (including admissions, triage, etc.).  When we first went in there was only one other lady in the waiting room and she wasn't called back until more than an hour after we arrived.  After we were back, there didn't seem to be much excitement.  Not sure what the hold-up was???
Also, I used the restroom there at the waiting room, and after flushing the toilet the water filled back up and it was brown and gross.  It also came out like that for about a second after turning on the faucet to wash my hands.  I went 3 times (I am also pregnant! Smiley ) and it was like that each time.  I heard someone else in the waiting room comment on it too.  I didn't mention it to anyone there, but it almost made me want to leave right then.  We didn't though.

Chatham Hospital is a joke..I hope they improve and get better docs since they have built a new hospital. It might be ok if you are suffering from small ailments. Your best bet around here is Sanford..they are very polite and the doctors I've dealt with in Sanford were great...I am currently thinking about sueing Chatham after misdiagnosing me for the past 11 years...Sanford found my problem before Christmas and fixed it in 4 months...I won't be going to Chatham Hospital unless taken there unconsious by mistake. And Chapel Hill is another sad story....in my opinion they just use you for study for the student docs. Thats another hospital I don't care to go to unless on air care..

why would you go to an ER to have an illness diagnosed? the ER isnt a primary care provider. im sure you were told to follow up with your family physician. shame on you for not doing so PJJ.... Upside the head

an ER is to treat emergency conditions. THATS ALL.

For 11 years I had emergency situations...I would go to the ER and then to Dr. K...but they kept saying I had diverticulitis...when I actually had crohns...and my intestines could have ruptured. My suggestion is not to go to Dr K for a colonostomy also...I bet I've had at least 7 by him...

so who was your REGULAR physician? Again, you named a surgeon....and the ER.... None of which are meant for management of your healthcare needs. If your been seeing ONE provider, being a responsible health care consumer, you could have saved yourself time and money.

Dr K was at the time my regular doc...my er situation made him my regular doc at the time..they should have found what was wrong with me. The doc in sanford was not my regular doc and he found it right away. In my opinion..Dr. K needs to retire...

I couldn't agree more chathamemployee. That's what it is used for though. I beleive what would do well in this town is an urgent care. I went to the one down in sanford next to the kmart and was seen quickly and done within 2 hours. No sense in clogging up the ER with runny noses and coughs. I busted my eyebrow open one day at work and went to the doctor behind the old chatham hospital for care. I understand that the ER is the only after hours available, however, most of what it is used for can wait until the next day.
