I was wondering if there has been any talk of UNC opening a satellite Emergency/Trama center in the Pittsboro area?

Hope you're o.k. Muddy. Is the hospital in Siler City too far for you?
Is that new hospital ready?

Last night I had to make a trip to the UNC emergency room.   Everything turned out ok.  But I was wondering if there has been any talk of UNC opening a satellite Emergency/Trama center in the Pittsboro area?

I'm glad it turned out.

why would you think they were?

After I made a 5-hour emergency room visit on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago, a friend who works occasional shifts at the ER at Chatham Hospital in Siler City suggested that I might have been better off going there for a broken bone. I will definitely keep the Chatham Hospital in mind for non-life-threatening emergency room care.

Let's hope they keep all their crabby employees up there. I've encountered a few nice people, but for the most part they need a course in human relations!

The new Chatham Hospital (highway 64, east of Wal Mart) is supposed to open the last week in July.

Not life threatening, I'd opt for Chatham vs. rotting of old age waiting to be seen in the ER at UNC/CH. . Tho' UNC now manages the local/Chath. hospital, hopefully it won't mean similar rigamarole waits. But I would also hope that if it is a scenario beyond their means other than to stabilize and transport elsewhere that they would be capable of doing so in a timely determination and fashion. None are express lane care and a reason for that as well.

Let's have a little perspective.  You wait for a long time for a broken bone (and I've done it many times, so trust me I know) because they are treating people with life-threatening injuries.  It's not like they're back there painting their nails.

Waits will likely be shorter at Chatham, as I doubt they will be a major trauma center, like unc is.  It will most likely be a much better destination for sprained ankles and broken wrists.

Someone told me the UNC owned some Pittsboro property, just drawing my own (incorrect) conclusions.

Exactly, people should look to Chatham Hosp. as a treatment source for certain care. We are lucky to still have a smaller hospital to address some more minor needs vs. being shipped off to the jungle of a more expensive locale and distance to address those more moderate needs and consequently bog down the more serious needs at a major facility. (Yet, I know Catham Hosp. also has the means to stabilize and transport serious needs to a more advanced care situation}.

It might have taken longer if they actually set it - broken toe that I thought was dislocated (twisted and bent sideways). ER sent me home with it taped and an appt at an orthopedist 5 days later. Ortho took about 5 minutes (and considerable pain) to set it.

I'll go to Chatham next time (yes, there will be a next time) for a broken bone or anything else that I don't expect to lead to an admission,

Wake Meds new hospital on 55 in Apex would be very convenient for alot of Pittsboro area folks. Brand new, trauma center w/ heli pad etc. Very good to have another air unit capable of servicing our area.

Maybe I am prejudiced, my Dad came to Siler in like 1948 to Admin./open up the Hosp. there and some how kept it alive to be able to serve local residents for care, so people would not have to go counties away for basic care.

it takes a long time to be seen, regardless of what the treatment is.  Whether or not they actually set it is pretty irrelevant.
