You Know You're From Chatham County When..

http://www.geocities.com/cavanaughsc/

1. You've spent countless hours "hanging out" at the powerlines.

2. You remember life when "Chatham Crossing" didn't exist and 15-501 was still two lanes.

3. You already hate Briar Chapel.

4. Every time you give directions you start from the courthouse and end with "turn down that there gravel road, and it'll be the second drive on the left"

5. You notice when they repaint Farrells.

6. You've had a lot of the same friends since you could talk - and can't remember life before them!

7. You know what the Dixie Deer Classic and Grassroots Festival are.

8. Half the roads near you are named after churches - and you know the difference between Martha's Chapel, Mt. Gilead, Mann's Chapel, and Mt. Carmel Ch Road.

9. You know the difference between Lystra and Old Lystra Rd.

10. You know that Cole Park is the place to be on Friday nights.

11. You know to stay out of Moncure after dark

12. You know where "Red Coon Run", "Cockroach Ranch Rd", and "All My Children Lane" are.

13. You LOVE the Pitt Stop.

14. All through elementary and middle school, you had less than 15 new people at your school.

15. You know that EVERYONE hunts!

16. You know all the best places to camp at Jordan Lake.

17. You remember back before Governor's Club when North Chatham had 500 kids and no money.

18. At school, theres no such thing as "the cool kids".

19. Its a common pastime to drive around the courthouse as many times as you can before getting pulled over.

20. You know NHS has the best arts department in the state, but prefer not to talk about it's academics.

21. Michael's has been there since you can remember, but the stores next to it change monthly.

22. You know, and LOVE Ghetto Cowboy.

23. You know Mr. Ramirez.

24. You party with people from ages fifteen to fifty, and don't think its weird

25. You know more than half of the 150 people who live in Bynum.

26. You know Perry Harrison was only formed because NCS got too full, and NCS was only formed because Horton got too full.

27. You know people who eat at Scoreboard at least twice a week.

28. You have a close relationship with Panda Garden and General Store workers.

28. You know not to swallow Jordan Lake water.

29. You know Alan and Sons has the best bbq.

30. You know that age doesn't really matter - you don't know the grade or age of some of your closest friends.

31. You don't think its weird that the funnest thing to do in Pittsboro is hike half a mile to an old piece of rope and jump off of it into Haw River.

32. At some point, you wore the blue planter's pants.

33. You know what CCCC is - and know that you have, are, or are going to take classes there at some point.

34. Youve rented a scratched movie from Video Boothe and know who messed it up

35. You know EVERYONE at school - and their families.

36. You know that even if you hate country, it sounds good blasting out of the speakers at Farrells.

37. You know the right way to say Lystra.

38. You know you're in the country when you see tractors on the highway.. but you know you're in chatham county when they're keeping up with you!

39. You know that theres a HUGE difference between East and West Salisbury St.

40. You know Lakeside Grill, next to Farrells, had the best breakfast, before it was shut down.

41. By the time you were in eighth grade you'd dated EVERY member of the opposite sex in your school.

42. You've NEVER dressed up to go to a party..

43. You know what people say about Horton isn't all true - its not THAT bad!

44. You know that NHS has the best (and best looking!) boys varsity soccer team.

45. You know Governor's Club isn't REALLY part of Chatham County; its just an island in the sea of redneck!

46. No one really cares how much money you have or what your parents do, and you're shocked that in other places, people care about that stuff.

47. You've lived here you're whole life, and couldn't imagine living anywhere else!

How old is this list...because the supposed love of The Pitt Stop (#13) didn't keep it from closing...more than 2 years ago.
Michaels (#21) is closed in Cole Park (and has been for quite some time), as has the Scoreboard (#27) [now Virlies] in downtown PBO. I've only been around for 10 years so I'm "new" here and gotta ask...what is Ghetto Cowboy (#22)?

don't feel bad. I have 30 years in and #12, 22 and 23 are mysteries. the rest are pretty good, though. #9 took until I had a child to take to the new NCE when it was built.

"Stay out of Moncure after dark" is pretty ridiculous. Gov. Club being an island in a sea of redneck is pretty ridiculous. And the list should have said, "You know you're from Eastern Chatham County if..." because obviously that writer has never been west of Pittsboro.

Yeah, I'm sorta tired of the BBS revolving around Pittsboro.

This list has been around for a long time, and it's mostly targeted at teenagers who grew up here, so if you don't get it all or it seems like a narrow world view, try not to get upset.

Number 48 should be: If you disagree with what a newcomer (someone who has been here less than 20 years) has to say, your first response is, "Why don't you go back where you come from?"

The author of this list can't have been here that long - all those references to Jordan Lake
Many of us remember when Jordan Lake didn't exist.

Snowball you're right - should read You Know You're From Pittsboro When...

I agree that it's definitely from a highschooler's point of view.  Having graduated from NHS in 1997 this list totally cracked me up.  And no, I don't remember when there wasn't a Jordan Lake but I certainly remember when 15-501 was only two lanes and how much fun we had just talking about driving around the cirlce 100 times.  Our actual plan was to get enough cars in line that no one else could get in.....the great idea of senior prank that luckily for us never happened.  That ticket on my record wouldn't be so much fun now.

You know where Silk Hope is, and why it's named as such;

You know why Chicken Bridge Rd. is named as such, also.

Devil's Tramping Ground.

1. You know you are from Chatham County when you remember Seaforth as a railroad stop not a boat ramp.
2. When Farrington was a community where everyone gathered on Sunday afternoon to watch grown men   play baseball and some even played minor league.
3. when you can remember all the churches and when they had their homecomings because no one wanted to miss seeing everyone and eating all the good food.
4. when you can remember going thru Siler City and there were no Fast Food places ...only Johnsons.
5. When you could go to Siler City on the weekend to the Drive in theatre...man I hated it when that place left.
6. When going to Ramseur was a Big time away basketball or football game.
7. When Chatham Central...Jordan Matthews and Northwood High were big time rivals in every sport.
