3 Triangle cities get recreation grants

http://www.newsobserver.com/news/chatham/story/1166605.html

PITTSBORO - Three Triangle- area local governments were awarded grants from the N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund to develop or renovate public park and recreation areas.
The Triangle-area grants total $1.2 million. That includes Chatham County's Northeast Community Park, which will get $500,000; Smithfield's Recreation and Aquatic Center, which will get $451,950; and Selma's Richard Harrison Recreation Center, which will get $291,000.

A 2007 study showed that Chatham County is substantially behind in providing facilities for most sports and recreational activities. For example, the county needs 11 more youth baseball fields and 11 additional soccer fields, the study concluded.

This is one example where Chatham Co. has made huge leaps and bounds.

Tracy Burnette and the Recreation Board are working hard ALL around the county to make these spaces available to the kids.(and adults too!!!)
This is a perfect example on how hard they are working to get funds from every source.
