Raves...wow, u old.

Yes, I iz.  Cheesy

Is the property government-owned or privately held? Seems to me if it is govt. owned, it would be easier to get this stopped?

I'm probably older than you and I've been to raves.  Never felt like there was anything violent though.

Who owns the Fairgrounds?

Who is renting it to this Sanford DJ?  Got a name on the DJ?

I agree - NIP IT!  Posting cops at the entrance as folks file in is a great idea.

It is the Chatham County Fairgrounds and I believe there is a fairgrounds board that runs it. I have an e-mail somewhere for the contact. I will see if I can dig it up and post it here. They have been renting it out to various groups to help pay for upgrades, like a new kitchen. Anyway, there was no name provided for the dj. I will call over to the police this afternoon and see if I can find it out. He is a young guy..is all I know. Meanwhile, I am going "undercover" right now, and will go over to the 'murder mart" and check out and see if there is a flyer there...will report back a little later.

I remember reading about the place in C. Hill and all of the shootings etc. Part of the reason business soured downtown there IMO.
Think I will pass on the video viewing. TMI!

Me too (been to raves), and I agree. There was a lot of drug use though.

This sounds like a whole different ballgame. Yikes.

I believe that it is owned by the Chatham County Industrial Fair association.  The board members include the guy who sells pumpkins/watermellons/greens out of the back of his truck all over Pittsboro.  Margaret Pollard also used to be on the board....not sure who else.

Way back when you went, they were mostly peaceful. Wink

Can someone explain why these parties continue? Where are the police? Who is renting this place if owned by Chatham County? Does Webster know about this?
Hard for me to believe that the police/sheriff hasn't removed these kids from the property, isn't it trespassing?  Upside the head

I went by the "murder mart" but no fliers...talked to the police chief. Apparently there is some heat on the fair manager Wesley Andrews to shut this thing down. The fair board is not happy, but it is too late for Friday night because of a contractual arrangement so they are going to allow one more shindig tomorrow night...and then the Fair Board will maybe cancel the contract and put an end to these parties.

For the fair information we use to call Chatham County Offices and they would give you someone phones number over the fair at the fairground.

yes, the rental of the grounds were leagal, contract does require them to provide private security.  This is how fast things can happen right under your nose Huh
Gang Town Pittsboro, don't like the way that sounds.

O.K, just heard from the dj...Matthew Pedrotty...who is a local resident not from out of town as was stated at the Town Board meeting.
Here is an open letter from him to the community

To set the record straight:  I am not an “outsider,” but was transferred here last fall because of my job.  After years of working as a Youth Director at Boys and Girls’ Clubs, and YMCA’s, I was concerned to see that teens here have no place to congregate, other than outside the local Wal-Mart since Pittsboro has no community center where young people can go.  With my experience of working with youth, I thought I could contribute by scheduling dances.  Because safety and security are of the highest priority for me, the first thing I did was contact the Pittsboro police to see how they could help.  However, because of various conflicts, the officer who was supposed to contact me never did.  Eventually, I took matters into my own hands and hired three security guards, one being an ex-sheriff and the other two having advanced black belts in karate.
We control the numbers of kids who attend a dance by issuing a limited number of wristbands.  The building we use has an occupancy limit of 250, however we’ve never held a dance where we’ve issued more than 226 wristbands.
To ensure everyone’s safety, anyone wishing to attend a dance is patted down from neck to toe by one of the guards before being permitted to enter the building.  A huge sign outside states that no alcohol or drugs are allowed on the premises, and there never have been any illegal substances found in the building.  On one occasion, the police arrived and asked if they could search the building, but once they received permission, decided not to.  And as for the shooting incident in the Food Lion parking lot, that location is closer to the Police Department than it is to the Fairgrounds where the dances are held.
It is in everyone’s interest to see that the young people of Pittsboro have places where they can go for fun, where their safety can be assured.  Police Chief David Collins understands that I’m trying to offer something positive by organizing these youth dances.  He encouraged me to respond to yesterday’s article for the purpose of correcting the errors and exaggerations contained in it, because he and I are committed to working together to provide the youth of Pittsboro a safe, secure place where they can come together to dance and have a good time
