Nice to hear his side of the story. It sounds like he has good intentions and has taken every reasonable precaution.

I think the letter covered it pretty well. But if anyone wants to send an e-mail to Mr. Pedrotty, its mattpedrotty@yahoo.com. Don't mean to be unfair. It sounds like his intentions are good, although the police are bracing for another long night, and Matt says he has had a lot of interest in tomorrow night's party.

He's right that providing youth with a place to congregate and have fun is a GOOD thing, especially if efforts are taken to make that place drug, alcohol and weapon free.

so whats the answer, simply don't allow children to gather unless it's at church or school?
the smart thing would be to work WITH this guy and find a way to have the parties AND keep the bad stuff out. The young people need an outlet so if you can get them to take advantage of one that is safe you're going to avoid things like kids drinking and racing cars down by the lake.

I agree that there needs to be a (good) place for the youth to go, and that it sounds like it is fine. But good intentions and reality sometimes differ dramatically.
As long as the controls which were outlined in the letter have been put in place are enforced, and as long as everyone's expectations that it is simply a social outlet to dance and mingle are met, and as long as there is a police presence to deter otherwise, then things should/could be good.
Dude does sound a bit defensive though, imho... I'm just sayin'...

uh, kids do have parents to offer them activities, I'll pass for my child. I'll take her to a concert, to jordan Lake if she wants to play in the water, movies, activities, youth church functions, High School activies, Young Life, dirt bike riding, the Mall during daytime hours, camping, swimming, to the beach, ect. But not rock/rap/ whatever parties. To many things to go wrong, even with security there.

if the cops had done what they were supposed to from the start (answer the phone) it might have helped. it sounds like they got the message by now.
kids need someplace, this guy is trying, and the cops are now alerted. should be easy enough to keep out roving bands of hoodilums.

I am glad to hear his side of the story and hopefully he and others will have support and nothing goes wrong. Think positive and be proactive with the kids, sounds good.

So where did the reported "info" originate of drinking, drugs, gangs/video of, attendees from all over (not Murphy to Manteo), but from wherever mentioned? Two "dances" occurring? The one inside the fairgrounds and another at the Food Lion parking lot? Whichever, changed my plans from P'boro to elsewhere, so someone else's profits just got cut!

Changed plans early on in the report/discussion here, not changing them again. 400 teen drivers is enough to keep me away
