As property values have dropped, will the county take this in to accord when we get our bills in August?  Three of our four homes have been vastly overvalued for the last 4 years. This year we plan to appeal. Would someone that has appealed tell me if they were satisfied with the outcome of the appeal , please.

The big revaluation will be next year so you might want to save your energy until then.  That's going to be a big fight.

IN my neighborhood the homes that have sold in the past year sold for less than the purchase price 3 and 5 years earlier. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Gerald Totten is involved with the appeal process and he has posted some educational things on this board about it.  You might try the search and see if you can get some of those posts to come up.

Property values are already listed for this year on line at the chatham county tax web site . My taxes are up from last year. 3 years in a row they have gone up . We need a new BOC . ASAP.

I don't think the BOC has anything to do with property values, they just set tax rates.

On the contrare...local government can and does have a huge impact on property values.  This BOC especially has been very anti-property owner with their political agenda so they and the people who elected them have a place in declining values in Chatham County.

Values in most of Wake have stayed neutral and have even gone up in some areas such as Cary.

Is that at this website or a different one?    http://ustaxdata.com/nc/chatham/taxsearch.cfm

Mine shows the same tax value as last year, so wondering if I need to look at a different site or if they haven't finished updating them all.

Thanks!

I got my bill today.  It is 5.1% higher than last year.  Not as bad as I thought it might be considering that the county government has to pay for increased gas costs (glad I don't have to fill up a school bus) like the rest of us.

I was confused by wahoo- is there somewhere you can see your new evaluation on your house already?  or did his/her taxes go up only b/c of the tax rate increase?

I am interested to see the reevaluation.  I knew the tax rate had gone up, so i knew to expect my taxes to increase.

One thing you might want to check on your tax bill is the line item for the disposal fee. As I understand it, this charge is for people who use the county centers as their primary refuse disposal site rather than a private company. I checked into this last year to find that our collection company still had our home under the previous owner's name and had to get some paperwork taken care of to remove the charge (it was fine this year as I think the rolls were updated). If you have a private waste collection service and see the $34 charge there, it may be worth a call or two to get it straightened out.

What's the availability fee?

My property valuation is very fair.

availbility fee is (i think from memory of looking at it yesterday) $91.  it is for folks in unincorporated areas because they have access to the trash/recycling collection sites (whether or not you use it, it is available for your use).  I think everyone in unincorporated areas is charged this.  The other fee should only be on your taxes if you do NOT have a trash company pick up your trash.

So both the availability fee and the disposal fee deal with trash collection? ($125.00 total)

Would be nice to have a system where you pay for what you dump.  When I was in NY last summer that was the case.
They weighed you vehicle before and after you dumped and you paid the difference.  It was a few dollars for a week but I did not recycle much.

Would encourage folks to recycle and compost if they has to pay by the pound.  Maybe that 's in the future.

I guess $125.00 is not too much to pay for me, since I live a mile from a site.

I know our trash has really decreased since they take 1-7 recyclables.  It is amazing what a difference it makes in the amount of our trash.  LOVE IT!

They include weighing the stuff you recycle?  I would not be happy about that!
